1. Pupils look at the word “The Moon” on the board.
PRE-LESSON
2. Pupils discuss as a class if they would like to travel to the oon and to say why or why not.
3. Pupils turn to Pulse 2 page 60 and read the question for Activity 1.
4. Pupils read the essay and listen to the audio version of the essay.
5. Pupils discuss as a class whether they agree with the opinion in paragraph B or C.
6. Pupils move on to Activity 2 and read the information in the Writing focus box.
7. Pupils copy the phrases “on the one hand” and “on the other hand” into their notebooks to highlight the
importance of contrasting ideas.
8. Pupils translate the 2 phrases into their native language.
9. Pupils proceed to Activity 3. Pupils read the essay again and match 4 descriptions to the 4 paragraphs in the
LESSON

10. Pupils compare answers in pairs before discussing as a class.
11. Pupils go on to Activity 4 and complete 2 notes for paragraphs B and C respectively with their own “yes” and
“no” reasons.

13. Pupils plan a draft of about 2 paragraphs using their ideas from Activity 4 to write an essay with the following
title: Will computers ever think like human beings?
14. Pupils exchange their draft with a partner for peer feedback.
15. Pupils write a 100-word essay based on the draft and peer feedback.
POST-LESSON 16. A few pupils read aloud their essays.
