LEARNING AREA: MATH 5 THIRD QUARTER

NAME CYRUS ANDREA M. AGCONOL WEEK 8

OF TEACHER:
CONTENT STANDARD: Demonstrates understanding of circumference.

PERFORMANCE Is able to apply knowledge of circumference in mathematical

STANDARD: problems and real-life situations.

MOST ESSENTIAL
LEARNING Finds the circumference of a circle.
COMPETENCIES:
LEARNING CODE: M5ME-IIIi-70
A. Review previous lesson A. Mental Computation Drill: Multiplying mixed
or presenting the new decimal by whole number.
lesson 1.4 x 2 =
2.3 x 3 =
6.2 x 2 =
2.21 x 4 =
8.2 x 3 =
What shape was formed?

B. Review: Now let’s identify the different parts of

the circle.

ENGAGE

C. Motivation: ( The teacher will show hula hoop)

Ask: What are these?
Do you know how to play hula hoop?
Say: I will group you into three so this will be group
1,2 and 3. Now go to your group mates and choose
the best hula hoop player in your group. Make it sure
that he / she is really the best hula hoop player so
that you will receive this prize.
( The teacher will call the players in front and
explain to the players how to do the contest.)

Say: Step now inside the hoop

Move your hands toward the edges of the hoop
Bring the hula hoop up to your waist level.
Step one foot in front of the other to gain
balance.
Grip the hoop firmly with two hands
When the music starts spin the hoop.
If I start the music you will begin hula hooping, when
the hula hoop drops to the floor completely you are
out of the game but if you drop the hula hoop to the
floor and you can still keep it moving you can still in
the game…
So are you ready?
( Announce the winner and give the prize)
*Health Integration/PE Integration
(Ask the players what happen when they do hula
hoop?Does it feels good? What happens when you
do hula hoop?
Say: Do you know that you can burn 7 calories a
minute while hooping and it also helps improve our
posture, boosts circulation and strengthens our core
muscles. And we can do this any where, right?
B. Establishing a purpose What is the shape of this hula hoop?
for the lesson. Who wants to measure the diameter of this hula
hoop?
What is its diameter?
While you are spinning this hula hoop in to your
waist does the distance around this circle touches
your waist?
So what do you call the distance around this circle?

Say: So this is what we call the circumference.

Now, Do you know how to find the circumference of

the circle?.

So lets find out how to get the circumference of the

circle by doing this activity. So again this will be
group 1 and 2.(Tiered Activities -groupings was
based on their level)

I will give this jar to group 1 & the hula hoop to

group 2.

Group 1:
Step 1:Cut the thread that was wrap around the lid of
the jar.
Step 2: Stretch the thread and measure the length
Step 3. Write the circumference

Group 2:
Step 1. Take a thread and revolve it around the bilao
or the hulahoop.
Step 2: Mark the initial and final point on the thread.
Step 3: Stretch the thread and measure the length of
the thread from the initial to the final point using a
ruler or a tape measure.
Step 4: Write the circumference

What is the circumference of the bilao? How about

the lid of the jar?

If the circumference of your bilao is _____ and the

circumference of the jar lid is _______

How about the diameter of the bilao and your lid jar .
Will you measure it also.

Now divide the circumference of your jar

lid/hulahoop to its diameter what did you get?

So what do you call this 3.14?

C. Presenting examples or What is the formula now to find the circumference of

instances of the new a circle?
lesson. C= x d / 3.14 x diameter

If the radius if given you can use this formula

C = 2r x or C = 2 x 3.14x r

D. Discussing new Diner Menu – Circumference of a Circle

concepts and practicing Appetizer (Everyone Shares)
new skills. #1 EXPLORE Write the formula for finding the circumference
(Choice of a circle if the diameter is given? If radius is
Board) given.
Entrée (Select One)
*Measure the circumference of the circle using a
thread.
*Draw a circle that has a diameter of 10 cm and
find its circumference.
*Solve this word problem involving the circumference of a
circle. A farmer would like to fence his circular garden that
has a radius of 40 m. How many meters of wire will he
need?
Side Dishes (Select at Least Two)
*Define circumference in writing.
*Compare radius to diameter using an illustration.
*With a partner, create and perform a song that shows
the differences between diameter and circumference
E. Discussing new
concepts and practicing How did you go about the activity?
new skills. #2
F. Making generalization What are the formulas in finding the
and abstractions about the ELABORATE circumference of a circle?
lesson.

G. Evaluating Learning EVALUATE

1.

2.

3. What is the circumference of this top of the drum if

its diameter is 15 inches?
4. What is the circumference of the circle if its radius
is 6
5. Kurt wants to buy a circular chocolate whose
radius is 4 inches. How big is the chocolate he wants
to buy?
