INTRODUCTION
The Standby Navigation System enables the flight crew to check the
Navigation Data provided by the Air Data Inertial Reference System (ADIRS).
The Standby Navigation System comprises:
S Standby Altimeter,
S Metric Altimeter and
S Standby Airspeed Indicator
(which provide altitude and airspeed indications),
S Standby Compass and
S Standby Horizon Indicator
(which provide heading and attitude indications).
The standby compass is installed at the top of the windshield center post.
The other instruments are installed on the center instrument panel.

The ISIS (Integrated Standby Instrument System) replaces three conventional ISIS Indicator Initialization function
standby instruments: This function corresponds to the initialization phase of the ISIS indicator.

It is located on the center instrument panel. − SPD for the airspeed indicator function
− ALT for the altimeter function
DESCRIPTION
− INIT 90 S for the initialization function.
The ISIS is composed of:
S a pressure module with its associated pressure sensors, Isis Indicator Front Panel Description
S an inertial module with its associated gyrometers and accelerometers, The face of the ISIS indicator has:
S a computation module for operational parameters calculation (altitude, S an ATT/RST pushbutton switch to reset the horizon (attitude) function to the

ADIRS INTRODUCTION
ADIRU Probes
The main components of the Air Data Inertial Reference System (ADIRS) are A set of probes and sensors provides air data.
the three Air Data Inertial Reference Units (ADIRU) which provide attitude and Pitot probes and static ports are linked to remote Air Data Module (ADM)
navigation data to the crew according to various inputs and controls. which comprise pressure transducers for sending the total or static pressure
Each ADIRU is a combination of an air data reference and an inertial reference data to the ADIRUs on an ARINC bus.
inside a single unit.
The ADIRUs provide signals to the primary flight displays and navigation
displays via the display management computers. FCU
ADIRU1 and ADIRU3 provide data to the digital data radio magnetic indicator. On the Flight Control Unit (FCU), two independent baro setting knobs are used
to provide baro corrections to the associated ADIRUs.
Depending on the setting of the true / magnetic pushbutton, the heading data is
referenced to true or magnetic north.
ADIRS Switching
MCDU In the basic configuration, ADIRU1 is associated to the captain instruments,
ADIRU2 to the first officer instruments and ADIRU3 is in standby.
The Multipurpose Control Display Units (MCDU) enable the crew to perform

In case of failure of the Air Data Reference (ADR) function of ADIRU 1 or 2,

GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM INTRODUCTION
GPS is a satellite supported navigation system to determine the Present Indications
Position. In the cockpit there are no GPS indications on the instruments.
It supplements the ADIRS, because inertial refence systems lose accuracy
depending on the time in the navigation mode.
24 satellites are in an orbit and send signals using the frequency 1575.42 Mhz. BITE
In order to determinate the present position, GPS uses up to eight satellites. There is no specific CMS BITE for the GPS.
Failures
GPS INTERFACE The GPSSU status and GPSSU data are monitored by the ADIRUs.
Some Airbuses have two GPS sensor units ( GPSSU ) with one antenna each The ADIRUs send the GPS fault message to the FWCs which generate
installed. an ECAM message.
For a quick alignment the GPSSUs receive the present position from the If GPS 1 fails the following level 2 message is displayed:
ADIRUs. The UTC is also used. NAV GPS1 FAULT.
Each GPSSU supplies the ADIRUs with those data:
S Present Position
S Ground Speed
S Track.

Normally GPSSU 1 supplies ADIRU 1 and ADIRU 3.

GPSSU 2 supplies ADIRU 2.
If a GPSSU fails the ADIRUs select the remaining GPSSU automatically.
Each ADIRU computes hybrid GPIR data, using the data computed by its

IR−part and the input from the supplying GPSSU.

The IR−part of each ADIRU supplies the FMGECs with those data:
S Hybrid GPIR data
S IR data
S GPS data.
In the last case, the signals are routed through the ADIRU.
