Activity 2: Developing a Conceptual Framework

Work on It
Create a conceptual framework for your research.

1. List the variables involved in your research. You can refer to the statement of the problem
and hypothesis of your research in order to come up with all possible variables affecting the
direction of your research. It is also helpful to indicate the type of variable so that you can
easily develop the framework.

Variables:
Independent variables
• Factors affecting the awareness of students on dangerous drugs
• Programs initiated by the DepEd and/or local government to boost drug
awareness of students

Dependent variable
• Level of drug awareness of senior high school students in terms of:
o Classification of dangerous drugs
o Effects of dangerous drugs
o Violations and penalties related to dangerous drugs

2. Design the framework that would best fit your research. Use the right components, such as
boxes, arrows, and lines. Make sure that your conceptual framework can visually explain the
direction of your research.

3. Finalize your conceptual framework followed by a narrative. Make sure that you will be able
to explain each component of the framework, the flow, and its corresponding significance on
the study.

The framework that this research follows is the IV-DV framework. The independent variables
of this study are the factors affecting the awareness of students on dangerous drugs, and the
programs initiated by the DepEd and/or local government to boost drug awareness of
students. The level of drug awareness of the senior high school students is identified as the
dependent variable, as this variable is affected by the aforementioned independent variables
to some extent. This study will consider that the drug awareness of the students: in terms of
classification of dangerous drugs, effects of dangerous drugs, violations and penalties related
to dangerous drugs; is dependent by different factors and how programs of the government
are held and implemented.
