A RESOLUTION TO PURCHASE ADEQUATE SUPPLY OF IRON

SUPPLEMENTS AND INTENSIFY ACTIVITIES FOR THE CONTROL AND
PREVENTION OF IRON- DEFICIENCY ANEMIA IN BARANGAY BON-OT
SMALL, MATNOG, SORSOGON.

WHEREAS, iron is an essential trace mineral that is needed for

hemoglobin formation. Hemoglobin gives blood its red color and carries
oxygen from the lungs to the tissues. Oxygen is needed by the body to produce
energy to do work;

WHEREAS, Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA) is a disorder resulting from

the decrease in red blood cells due to lack of iron;
 WHEREAS, based on the 7th National Nutrition Survey conducted by the
Food and Nutrition Research Institute- Department of Science and
Technology, the prevalence of IDA in Bicol Region is considered moderate
(23.7%) and high (42.5%) among children aged six months to five years old
and pregnant women, respectively;

WHEREAS, iron/ folic supplementation prevents neural tube defects

when the supplements is given to women of reproductive age starting from
one(1) month prior to conception , improves the cognitive and motor
development of anemic preschool children and increase work productivity as
it prevents IDA;

WHEREAS, the PPAN 2020 priority measures to reduce IDA include

iron supplementation (for infants, preschool, school children, pregnant,
lactating and female adolescents) and promotion of production and
consumption of animal foods and vegetable rich in iron;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by

the Barangay Nutrition Committee of Barangay Bon-ot Small, Matnog,
Sorsogon in a quarterly meeting duly assembled, to purchase adequate supply
of iron supplements and intensify activities for the control and prevention of
IDA;

RESOLVED LASTLY, that the copies of this resolution be furnished to all

concerned offices for their reference and guidance;

APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY this 15th day of September 2020 during the

quarterly meeting of the Barangay Nutrition Committee of Barangay Bon-ot Small,
Matnog, Sorsogon.
