is the most basic random sampling wherein
each element in the population has an equal
probability of being selected. They are
usually represented by a unique identification
number that is written on equal-sized and
shaped papers and then selection of samples is
possible through the lottery method.
is a random sampling wherein the
population is divided into different
strata or divisions.

elements are selected from the population
at a uniform interval that is measured in time,
order, or space. Typically, there is firstly, a
decision on a desired sample size n. The
frame of N units is then divided into groups of
k units:
k=N/n. Then, one unit is randomly
selected from the first group, with every kth
unit thereafter also selected.
is a random sampling wherein
population is divided into clusters or
groups and then the clusters are
randomly selected.
Direction: Determined whether the following is a random sample or NOT. Write RS
if the given situation is random sample and NRS if Not Random Sample.
1. To select the students to attend the summer workshop in
Sorsogon, the teacher told her class to count off, and then
selected those even-numbered students for the workshop.

2. The barangay captain conducts a random household survey to

study average residency duration in Barangay Guinlajon. Each
household is assigned a unique number, and the selection was via
number generator determines participation

3. To find the average number of dengue victims in hospitals per
day, a researcher made a list of all hospitals in Sorsogon Province,
and then selected every fifth in the list.
4. A company wants to conduct a survey to understand employee
satisfaction. The HR department decides to survey employees who
have been with the company for more than five years. They compile
a list of all such employees and send out the survey to all of them.
5. To select students for MTAP competition, the school math
coordinator decided to screen competitive students from junior high
school.
Assignment
Direction: Identify the type of sampling illustrated in the example situations
below.

1. If a population has an equal number of males and females in it, so does the sample.
2. If we wish to draw a sample of 50 individuals from a population of 1000 patients
admitted in a certain hospital, we could place the 1000 names in a container and
blindfolded, draw one name at a time.
3. The Grade 11 student who happens to be taking a STEM course in the Senior High
School and is therefore a convenient subject to use, frequently becomes part of the
sample in research. The students in a class may constitute the entire sample because
they happen to be in a class whose teacher is interested in doing research.

Direction: Identify the type of sampling illustrated in the example situations
below.

4. A school with 900 students, 380 males, and 520 females requires a sample of
120 students. To ensure proportional representation from both genders, a
selection method like a lottery number generator will be used.

5. In a population of 200, we wish to get a sample of 40. We obtain n by

dividing 200 by 40 to obtain n=5. This means that every 5th element of a given
population that is arranged alphabetically or in any systematic fashion is
selected to make the sample size
