1. SCOPE
The intent of this specification is to define the requirements of Paging and Intercom
System to be installed on offshore platforms. The equipment described herein shall,
when installed, function to provide for voice paging, personal intercommunication,
and sounding audio alarms (tones).
2.1. All equipments supplied shall comply with the requirements of latest revisions
of the relevant standards of :
UL : Underwriters’ Laboratories.
2.2. Any other recognized international code or standard may be followed in lieu of
above with prior approval of the Company.
3. SITE CONDITIONS
4. SCOPE OF SUPPLY
4.1. All the components necessary to perform the desired operations shall be
supplied.
4.2. This includes, but not limited to, power supply module (if required), amplifiers,
speakers, cases, handsets, tone generators, transformers, and balance networks.
4.3. Cables, junction boxes and mounting kite, as specified in data sheet, shall also
be supplied.
4.4. Company will provide power supply as indicated in data sheet at one point
only.
5. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
5.1.1. The system to be supplied shall be complete in all respects and ready
for operation after interconnecting wiring is installed. Multi-party (Five
party) line system with provisions at each handset station for paging is
required. Page and party line channels shall be independent of each
other. Party channels shall allow two way communication and
simultaneous communication shall be possible on all the channels from
any place where the facility is provided. Any special requirements
asked in data sheet shall be incorporated.
5.1.3. The order of severity (No. 1 being the most severe) and corresponding
tones are given below:
5.1.4. Flashing lights shall be provided in high noise areas to call attention.
Suitable control facility shall be provided on the intercom stations
located in control/radio room. These stations shall be equipped with
minimum six push buttons for tone generator operation (5 for tone & 1
for reset) and push buttons for flashing light operation and also with
individual alarm indicating lights. The indicating lights shall remain
energized once an alarm have been initiated and shall only be cleared
by the reset system.
5.2. Safety
5.2.1. System provided shall be intrinsically safe except for amplifier and
speakers, which shall be suitable for safe or hazardous (explosion
proof) area as described in the data sheet. Assemblies to be mounted
outdoor shall be weather proof.
5.2.2. All equipment supplied shall have been certified by a testing agency
such as Underwriter’s Laboratories (UL) or Factory Mutual (FM). This
Certification shall be verified in both the proposals and the delivery
documents.
5.3.1. Components
5.3.1.1. Considering the environment and the nature of the industrial use,
some special features are to be incorporated. Handset shall be
provided with a noise canceling transmitter. Speaker’s volume
control knob shall be provided on each amplifier/handset. During
paging, the local speaker near the handset in use shall be resistant
to line shorts, either by current limiting or by the use of
protective devices.
5.3.1.3. All units shall be assembled and wired in accordance with the
latest industry standards and techniques for equipment of this
type. The system shall be as free as possible of circuitry
5.3.2.1. All material shall be selected and finished to resist the conditions
described in GS-5006, “Site Conditions and Climate”.
Components installed outdoors are to be weather proof. Painting
shall be conforming to General Specification GS-2005
“Protective Coating”. All electronic circuit boards shall be
tropicalized to preclude corrosion and fungus growth.
6.1. Testing and inspection of the Paging and Intercom System shall include, but
not necessarily be limited to, the following:
6.2. A quantitative check shall be made to assure all items, in specified quantities,
are present according to the purchase order, the packing lift and the drawings.
6.3. A visual inspection shall be made to assure good finish workmanship and good
practice maintained throughout fabrication and assembly.
6.4. A functional test shall be conducted with all devices interconnected to verify
system operation.
6.5. The Company reserves the option to have representatives to witness the final
testing and inspection. The vendor shall notify the Company at least twenty
days prior to beginning of testing.
7. SPARES
7.1. Vendor shall recommend and provide spare parts needed for start-up. In
addition vendor shall furnish a separate priced list of recommended spares for
two (2) years normal operation and maintenance. Recommended spares shall
take into account the related factors of equipment reliability, effect of
equipment down time upon production, safety, cost of parts and availability of
equipment service facilities.
7.2. All spares furnished by vendor shall be wrapped and packaged so that they will
be preserved in original as new condition under the normal conditions of
storage prevailing in India and shall be properly tagged and coded so that later
identification as to intended equipment usage will be facilitated. They shall be
packaged separately, clearly marked as “Spare Parts” and shipped at the same
time as the main equipment. Packing lists shall be furnished so that the parts
can be handled without uncrating, if desired.
8. WARRANTY
Vendor shall have final and total responsibility for the design and performance of
all equipments supplied under this specification. Vendor shall warrant the
equipments furnished by him and their performance in accordance with this
specification and “General Specification – Definition” (Spec.No. 1050).
Vendor shall furnish all data/drawings as per attached general specification GS-
1060.
10. CONFLICT
In the event of conflict between this specification and other documents listed herein,
the following order of priority shall govern:

(a) shall have been type tested by an authority approved by the Company.
The offered equipments along with their accessories shall be shipped to site packed
in wooden crates. They shall be wrapped with polythene sheets, before being placed
in the crates to prevent to finish. Crates shall have skid bottom for handling.
