HOW TO BRAINSTORM IN IELTS WRITING TASK 2

B1: Phân tích đề

Cái gì đang chưa rõ? => Hướng tư duy (quy về các dạng câu hỏi). VD: Nên
(nên cho ai, nên khi nào, với điều kiện nào), Cách tốt nhất (có cách tốt hơn,
hơn ở mặt nào?/có cách cũng tốt như thế, là những cách nào?), …

Đề có mấy vế?

• Đề có 1 vế (Nhưng vẫn phải viết 2 đoạn)

People living in the 21st century have a better quality of life than the
previous centuries. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Cách giải quyết: Chia nhỏ thành các khía cạnh nhỏ (về mặt này/về
mặt kia)

• Đề có 2 vế => Chia mỗi vế về 1 đoạn => Định hình tư duy theo mỗi vế
đó để dựng bài

• Đề có 3 vế => Gom những cái tương đồng về cùng nhau => 2 vế =>
Định hình tư duy theo mỗi vế đó để dựng bài

B2: Lập luận theo từng phần của câu hỏi: Give facts/explanation (cause-
effect-solution)/contrast/example.

ð Không dài quá 2 câu cho 1 main idea (1 main idea + 1-2 câu
supporting ideas)
ð Mỗi đoạn cần có 2 ideas
 ð Mỗi đoạn cần 5 câu: 1 topic sentence – 2 idea – 2 supporting ideas

Sample:

Some people think that a huge amount of time and money is spent on the
protection of wild animals, and that this money could be better spent on
the human population. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this
opinion?

Central argument: Agree 1+2

• Body 1: There are various reasons why huge resources and time have
been invested in the efforts to protect and preserve the wildlife.

• Idea 1 (what is needed to do): To maintain the ecological

balance => If they die out, other creatures feeding on them in
the food chain will inevitably suffer and be inclined to the
disaster of extinction => Protecting this balance will ensure a
sustainable future for the next generation.

• Idea 2 (what can be done): By allocating a huge sum of

financial resources, time and efforts, humans can prevent, or at
least slow down, the occurrence of such extinction.

Example: invest more in studying …., scientists can help monitor

and encourage the development of those on the verge of die-
 out, facilitating their reproduction and growing their community
in the future.

• Body 2: Such investment SHOULD be allocated to humans

(addressing urgent issues + improving living quality).

• Idea 1 (addressing urgent issues): Human society is now facing

multiple urgent issues, such as social evils. => What can money
and time do to deal with the situation? One of the factors
leading to social evils is unemployment. => So what? Education
is the key to job opportunities => Link back: money works here

• Idea 2 (improving living quality): What can money and time do

to deal with the situation? => Improve infrastructure => So
what? => Enables people to increase their productivity, brings
them prosperity and improves living quality.

ð Conclusion: Agree 100%

Some believe that people SHOULD NOT continue to work once they reach
the age of retirement. Do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your
answer and include relevant examples from your experience.

ð Idea 1: Hazardous environment => Why: Too weak to do

ð Idea 2: Physically demanding jobs => If not strong enough => unable
to do

[SHOULD NOT] Không nên làm việc vì người trẻ:

ð Idea 1: More senior and aged people working after their retirement
age => lead to fewer job opportunities for the youth to join in the job
market => In other words, this also means that those working after
retirement are depriving the future generations of chances to work
and pushing them to unemployment.
ð Idea 2: This practice can make the general public think that the
current regulations about retirement age is not appropriate => The
likelihood of raising the retirement age => put more pressure on the
youth who seek to retire early.
The best way to solve world's environmental problem is to increase the
cost of fuel for cars and other vehicles. To what extent do you agree or
disagree?

The best way = second to none => nothing better

Việc chứng minh không tồn tại cách khác/cách tốt hơn để xử lý vấn đề =>
Điều này khá bất khả thi => Không nên đi theo hướng này.

Nhưng nếu vẫn muốn làm, thì phải cố chứng minh cho được cái đề bài cho
làm được những gì mà những thằng khác không làm được (Cái này khá là
khó).

Quan điểm NO:

Body 1: Cách này nghe có vẻ tốt, nhưng không thực sự là duy nhất/tốt nhất

o Topic sentence: Granted/Admittedly, ….. => Cứ cho là, ….. => cái này
tốt vì một vài lý do.
o First, ….. (Idea 1) => Supporting idea 1
o However, …. (nó không thực sự tốt vì …./nó chỉ tốt với điều kiện là …)
=> Supporting idea 2 (nếu như có điều kiện này rồi thì cần gì cái đề
bài cho trước).
o Conclusion: Cách này không thực sự cần thiết đến thế.

Body 2: Còn tồn tại cách khác cũng tốt/tốt hơn (khi nhìn vấn đề ở một góc
độ toàn diện hơn)
Topic sentence:

o Idea 1: …… => Supporting idea 1

o Idea 2: …… => Supporting idea 2

Quan điểm: Disgree

Body 1: Cách này nghe có vẻ tốt cho môi trường, nhưng không thực sự là
tốt cho kinh tế

- Idea 1: Price rises => So what? => Demand drops => So what? =>
Limit the use of automobiles as well as their emissions, which can
pollute the atmospheric environment
- Idea 2: However, it is not without its problems => what? => to fuel
inflation => so what? => place a greater financial burden on each
household and business.

Body 2: Còn tồn tại cách khác cũng tốt cho môi trường và cũng khả thi/dễ
thực hiện

- Idea 1: Encourage the purchase of electric vehicles, for example by

reducing tax on this environment-friendly kind of automobile =>
reduce the dependence on fossil fuels as well as hazardous fumes
resulting from burning these fuels
- Idea 2: Stop people from using one-time items in their day-to-day
practices => Reduce waste (the main reasons for environmental
pollution) and raise the public awareness of this urgent global issue,
make efforts to protect Mother Earth more effective.
