Each group will be given a
task.
Procedure:
1. Rub the balloon against the
wool cloth for about 30
seconds.
2. Bring the balloon close to
small pieces of paper and
observe what happens.
3. Measure the distance at which
the paper is attracted to the
balloon.
Guide Questions:
1. What happens to the balloon
when it is rubbed against the
wool cloth?
2. Why do the small pieces of
paper stick to the balloon?
Procedure:
1. Rub the plastic spoon against
the wool cloth for about 30
seconds.
2. Bring the spoon close to the
Styrofoam cup and observe
what happens.
3. Measure the distance at which
the paper is attracted to the
spoon.
Guide Questions:
1. What happens to the ruler
when the charged balloon is
brought close to it?
2. Why do the small pieces of
paper stick to the rspoon?
ACTIVITY 3 (Group 3): Charging
by Induction
Materials Needed:
Balloon
Wool cloth
Ruler
Small pieces of paper
Procedure:
1. Rub the balloon against the
wool cloth for about 30
seconds.
2. Bring the balloon close to a
neutral object (e.g., a ruler)
without touching it and
observe what happens.
3. Measure the distance at which
the paper is attracted to the
ruler.
Guide Questions:
1. What happens to the ruler
when the charged balloon is
brought close to it?
2. Why do the small pieces of
paper stick to the ruler?
