(Teacher’s Discussion)
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- is a type of protective clothing, equipment, or
gear designed to protect the wearer from hazards
that can cause harm to the body or clothing.
- PPE can also be used to protect the working
environment from pesticide application,
pollution or infection from the worker (for
example in a microchip factory).
PPE is typically used for job-related occupational safety
and health purposes, but it can also be used to protect the
\

working environment from pollution, pesticides, and

infection from the worker.

Examples of PPE includes;

1. Goggles

- are large spectacles with shields around the rims,

protecting the eyes from dust, excessive light,
wind and other hazards that can cause eye injury.
- to shield the eyes against liquid or chemical
splash, irritating mists, vapors, and fumes. Students will listen
attentively to the teacher’s
2. Rubber sole shoes discussion

- are a special type of shoes used to prevent

electrical shock and provide waterproofing and
insulation.
- This allows you to work safely in wet, muddy,
and slippery environments – without having to
worry about bringing along a change of socks.

3. Aprons

- are garments worn over the front of the body to

protect one's clothing from spills, splashes, and
other hazards.

4. Face masks

- are coverings for the face that prevent the

inhalation or absorption of dust and other
chemicals.
- are used to protect the wearer from particles or
from liquid contaminating the face.
5. Gloves

- are made of covering material with separate

sheaths for each finger and are used to protect
the hands.
- must be worn when there is the potential for
injury or exposure to skin contact from
chemicals, infectious agents, heat, cold, abrasive,
and cutting objects.

PPE is essential in many workplaces to protect workers

from injury or illness. It prepares you for health and
safety risks and gives you extra protection in the event of
an accident or against the elements. Employers should
provide appropriate PPE to employees and ensure that
they use it correctly. Employees should also be trained
on how to properly use and care for their PPE. It is
crucial to follow PPE guidelines and protocols to
maintain workplace safety and reduce the risk of injury
or illness.

In educational settings, it is important that teachers and

students during their laboratory period are required to use
personal protective equipment. This ensures the safety of
the students and teachers while conducting experiments
and handling hazardous materials. It is important to use
the PPE most importantly in a computer laboratory
because it is where chemical, biological, radiological, or
mechanical hazards are present in laboratory. By using
PPE, students and teachers can prevent injuries and
illnesses and create a safe and healthy learning
environment.

Therefore, PPE is essential in many workplaces and

educational settings to protect workers and students from
hazards that can cause injury or illness. Employers and
educators should provide appropriate PPE, train
employees and students on how to use and care for it,
and ensure that PPE guidelines and protocols are
followed to maintain workplace and educational safety.

Any questions or clarification regarding our topic?

masks, rubber sole shoes,
and aprons.

3. What are the uses of each type of PPE?

Students will give their
own responses
b. Analysis
4. How can PPE be used to protect the working

environment? the working environment
from pollution or infection
caused by the worker. For
example, in a microchip
factory, PPE is used to
prevent workers from
contaminating the
environment with bacteria
or other harmful
substances.

5. What are the consequences of not wearing PPE?

Not wearing PPE can have
serious consequences,
including injuries, illness,
or even death. It is
important to wear PPE to
protect oneself from
potential hazards in the
working environment.

c. Abstraction
1. Why is it important to use PPE in the workplace? It is important to use PPE
in the workplace
environments to ensure the
safety and health of the
worker and to prevent
workplace injuries and
illnesses.

2. As a student, how do you benefit from using PPE

at school? At home? Answers of the students
will vary.
d. Application ACTIVITY 3: GET TO KNOW ME
Directions:
 The class will be divided into five (5) groups.
 Each group will choose its leader.
 The group will choose 2 persons to present their
activity, 1 model who will wear the PPE given or
assign to them and the other 1 will explain how
to use the PPE and its function.
 Each pair is given 2 minutes to do the activity.

The order of the presentation is:

Group 1-Mask
Group 2-Apron
Group 3-Rubber sole shoe
Group 4-Gloves
Group 5-Goggles
