Before we begin with our lesson, let
us first have a recap about our topic
last meeting. So, who still remember
our lesson yesterday? Anyone? (The pupils will raise their hands)

Go on pupil 2 Teacher, last meeting we discussed about

the three elements of infectious disease
transmission such as susceptible host ,
pathogens, and environment. We also
discussed the four types of microbes or

B. LESSON PROPER
1. MOTIVATION
Now, class do you want prizes?
Yes, teacher!
Since all of you want prizes, I have
prepared here a simple activity, and
all you need to do is read the
dialogue that I am going to present to
you. After reading the dialogue, I will
ask you some questions, and all
pupils who answer correctly will

receive a prize. Are you ready?
Okay, here’s the illustration of the
dialogue

Do you understand it?

understanding about the dialogue,
what was the mother’s advice to her
daughter when she found out she had

Definitely, our lesson for today about infection
the flow and transmission of infection.
And our lesson is entitled “Flow of
Infection, Quick Action”
So, we will now proceed to our proper
discussion.
What is flow of infection, quick action
all about? Let’s find out!

3. DISCUSSION
A disease can be transmitted from
one person to another. The chain of
infection shows the components in
the flow of disease or infection.

The spread of infection can be direct

or indirect. Infectious diseases can be
transmitted through fluids and other
substances such as saliva, colds,
urine, stools, and bloods. It can also
be passed through personal things
such as syringe, combs, towels (an-
an and buni), slippers (alipunga), and
so on. It also enters the human body
through inhalation, through skin,
wounds, and sexual intercourse.

So, class here is the illustration of

chain of infection.

Components of Chain Infection

There are 6 components of chain of

infection such as Causative/
Infectious Agents (Pathogens),
Reservoir or Source (Host), Mode of
exit, Mode of transmission, Mode of
entry, Bagong tirahan (Susceptible
Host)

Class do you have any idea about

these components of chain of
infection?

infection, I will explain it to you one by
one. So lend me your ears and listen
attentively, okay?

Very good.

Now let us start with Causative/ Yes, teacher

Infectious Agents (Pathogens)

A. Causative/ Infectious Agents

(Pathogens)

These are microbes or micro-

organisms that causes infectious
diseases.

So, class do you understand what is

Causative/Infectious Agents
(Pathogens)?

Very good, now we will proceed to Yes, teacher

Reservoir or Source (Host)

B. Reservoir or Source (Host)

It is a place where the agents live

and reproduce. It can be people,
animals, water, soil, food, towels,
dishes, spoons, forks, and so on.

So, class do you understand what is

Reservoir or Source (Host)

Very good, now we will proceed to

Mode of exit Yes, teacher

C. Mode of exit

An example of this is in a person’s

mouth, where saliva comes out while
talking, sneezing, or coughing. The
cold, dirt, and blood are also
examples.

So, class do you understand what is

Mode of exit

Very good, now we will proceed to

Yes, teacher
Mode of transmission

D. Mode of transmission

The process of transferring germs to

other people through droplets,
airborne, foodborne, vectorborne,
and bloodborne.

The infectious disease can be

transmitted to other people by the
following:

 Eating the food of sick person or

sharing with them

 Through wind, water, and soil

 Through blood, saliva, dirt, and urine

 Touching an infected person, object or

tool

So, class do you understand what is

Mode of transmission and how the
infectious disease being transmitted
by the people in different way?

Very good, now we will proceed to

Yes, teacher
Mode of entry

E. Mode of Entry

The microbes pass through other

people’s bodies. It can be through the
mouth, nose, or skin. Open wounds
are susceptible to germs, so more
precautions are needed to prevent
infection or disease.

So, class do you understand what is

Mode of Entry on how germs or
microbes enters the body?

Very good, now we will proceed to

Yes, teacher
the last component of chain of
infection which is the Susceptible
Host

F. Susceptible Host

Anyone with a week immune system

is susceptible to the disease.

 Mold with clay your chosen pathogen
from the chart
 Share with the class what you do
 Present the characteristics of your
chosen microbes and how does it flow
in the chain of infection
 Do the activies within 7 minutes
 Each group will be having 3 minutes to
present your work

Are we clear class?

Okay, now get your clay infront and

start doing the activity.

After 7 minutes

Okay class, time is up. Are you

finished?
Yes, teacher
Are you ready to present your work?

Okay, let us start with group 1

lesson, get a piece of paper and put
out your pen.
