The Benefits of using FITT Principle

Introduction
People talk about wanting to “get into better shape” or “be more fit”. After all,
everyone wants to be as healthy as possible. But how to you create a good plan for this?
How much of each kind of exercise should one aim for?
Every person has different goals and abilities, but with this principle, you can
create a good plan to become or stay more “fit”. Using the FITT Principle, a personal
physical activity plan will outline how often (frequency), how long (time), and how hard
(intensity) a person exercises, and what kinds of exercises (type) are selected.
So, what are the benefits of FITT Principle?
1. The FITT principle can help you get the results you want from a workout in a timely
manner with limited risk of burning out or getting hurt.
2. The FITT principle is a tried and true method of putting together an efficient workout
plan.
3. its especially useful if you’re someone who thrives on structure, as you can think of
the components as a set of rules to follow.
4. its also great for monitoring your exercise progress with cardiovascular activity and
strength training.

Overview

FITT can be applied to exercise in general or specific components of exercise

and it helps you to create a workout plan that will be more effective in reaching your
fitness goals. F.I.T.T stand for frequency, intensity, time, and types of exercise.
And using FITT principle, it gives you a straightforward guideline for revising and
improving any workout plan.

7
 What is FITT principle
FITT principle are an exercise prescription to help participants understand
how long and how hard they should exercise. The FITT principle or formula is a
great way of monitoring your exercise program. The acronym FITT outlines the
key components or training guidelines for an effective exercise program and the
initial F.I.T.T, stand for: Frequency, Intensity, Time and Type.

 Frequency- refers to the frequency of exercise undertaken or how often you

exercise. Frequency is a key component of the FITT principle.

 Intensity- refers to the intensity of exercise undertaken or how hard you exercise.
This is an extremely important aspect of the FITT principle and is probably the
hardest factor to monitor.
The best way to gauge the intensity of your exercise is to monitor your heart rate.

 Time- refers to the time you spend exercising or how long you exercise for. The
time you spend exercising is also an important part of the FITT principle.
The time dedicated to exercise usually depends on the type of exercise
undertaken.

 Type- the type of exercise undertaken or what kind of exercise you do.
The type of exercise you chose will have big effect on the results you achieve.
That’s why its important to know what you want to gain from your efforts.

Example of FITT principle.

Self-reflection Activity

1. Do you enjoy participating in Physical Education at school? Why or why

not? Have you ever felt a benefit from being physically active in school? (i.e.
more anergy in the afternoon, better concentration, etc.)
Yes, I was enjoyed participating “P.E” at school, because except for
being happy doing that, it can also help to maintain my proper body, it can
give me a healthy lifestyle.
Doing physical activity/ exercise can also realized me that it is better
to maintain and be healthy than to sit down alone without doing nothing
and also it has a lot of benefits to me.

2. What is the importance of correct and proper execution of exercise while

doing the activity?
The importance of it is, you will be healthy all the time, and doing
exercises can give you a proper way to have a healthy body and lifestyle.
