b. write unit fractions.
c. arrange unit fractions in ascending or descending order.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: ARRANGING UNIT FRACTIONS INN INCREASING AND DECREASING ORDER

Resources/Learning Materials

Resource: Teaching Mathematics in Primary Grades textbook

Learning Materials: Visual aids, Realia, and Real Objects
III. LEARNING Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity
PROCEDURES

A. Preparatory 1. Prayer
Activities Angel of God,
____________, can you lead us in the prayer? my guardian dear
to whom God’s love
commits me here,
ever this day,
be at my side,
to light and guard,
rule and guide. Amen.

2. Greetings

Good afternoon Grade 2 Mapagbigay. Good afternoon, Sir.

So how are? Are you doing good? Yes Sir!

Okay that is very good to hear!

3. Checking of Attendance
(the Teacher will call the class President)
____________, is there anyone absent in our
class today? No one is absent today
Sir
Wow! That is very good to hear that no one is absent today.

B. Purpose of the This lesson aims for students to…

Lesson
• Represent unit fractions using different
objects.

• Write unit fractions.

• Arrange unit fractions in ascending or

descending order.
C. Review
Before we formally start our discussion let us have first a
review about our topic last meeting.

What is our topic all about last time?

Unit fractions Sir.
Very good! What does unit fraction all about?
A unit fraction is a
fraction that has a
numerator 1 and its
denominator is any
positive number.
Exactly! I am in so much joy and it is evident that you
listened and understand our topic last meeting.

D. Motivation Before we formally start let us first have an activity called

SHARE MO LANG!

I will show you two pictures and share with the class the Yes sir.
things that you notice about it. Are we clear?

The first picture, the

number of cars is
increasing and in the
second pictures, the
apples are decreasing in
quantity.

E. Presenting Our lesson for today is all about the arranging of unit
examples/instances of fractions from increasing or decreasing order
the new lesson
Who among you wants to eat?
Me teacher!
Okay class, settle down first.

In this eating challenge, I need 3 groups. The first group

should consist of 2 members, the second group will consist
of 3 members and 4 for the third one. All participants,
please come here in front.

(the teacher will assign the members of each group)

Now we already have 3 groups, I will give you a whole

piece of bread. What you are going to do is divide the
bread according to the number of your members. Are we
clear? Yes teacher!

(the teacher will give the bread to the students)

You may now divide the bread.

Are you all done? Yes teacher!

Alright! Now, distribute the slices of bread to your group

members.

Do all members already have their bread in their hands? Yes teacher!

Okay, let us start, in the count of three, you eat the bread.

1…2…3...Go!

(the teacher will facilitate the eating challenge)

Okay! The group who won the eating challenge is the

group____. To appreciate their victory, let us give them a
(the students will do the
“Yum Yum Yum clap”
yum yum yum clap)
You may now be seated.

I have here circles which represent the bread eaten by your

classmates awhile back.

Did all bread have the same number of slices?

No teacher.
How many slices do we have for group 1?
2
How many slices do we have for group 2? 3

How many slices do we have for group 3? 4

Which group has the largest piece of slices? Group 1

How about the smallest slice? Group 3

That is the reason why the third group finished faster than
the first 2 groups.
Can someone arrange these pictures in increasing order? (students will volunteer)

How about decreasing order?

Very good!

F. Discussing new Just like what I have told you earlier, you will arrange the
concepts and practicing circles into decreasing and increasing order, now we will
new skills arrange unit fractions.

Alright! Since you already know what a unit fraction is, I

will tell you how to identify which unit fraction has bigger
value. The one that has a smaller number of denominators
has a bigger value.

I will show you an illustration for you to understand it

better.

¼ 1/8
G. Developing Mastery
Okay now class let us go back on the breads that we had
awhile back. The bigger the denominator the unit fraction
has, the smaller the amount it has. Are we clear? Yes Sir!

Now I will flash unit fractions and then you will tell me
what fraction has the larger amount.
You just raise your hand.

½- ¼
½
1/6 – 1/3 1/3

1/10 – 1/8 1/8

1/7 – 1/9 1/7

1/5- 1/6 1/5

Now let us have in smaller amount.

1/3 – 1/5 1/5

1/10 – 1/8 1/10

1/4 -1/3
¼
1/7 – 1/10
1/10
1/6 – ½ 1/6

Very good! It is very evident that you truly understand our

lesson.

H. Finding practical Let us divide the class into 4 groups, we will be having an
Applications of activity called, “ITULOY MO LANG!”
Concepts and Skills
INSTRUCTIONS: The teacher will give the groups a
piece of paper wherein there are written fractions there and
they should arrange it in increasing and decreasing order.

1. 1/2, 1/5, 1/3, 1/7, 1/8 Increasing order:

2. 1/6, 1/5, ½, ¼, 1/10
1. 1/8, 1/7, 1/5, 1/3, ½
3. 1/3, 1/9, 1/5, 1/10, 1/4
2. 1/10, 1/6, 1/5, ¼, 1/2
4. ¼, ½, 1/9, 1/7, 1/3 3. 1/10, 1/9, 1/5, ¼, 1/3
5.1/5, ½, 1/10, 1/9, 1/3 4. 1/9, 1/7, ¼, 1/3, 1/2
5. 1/10, 1/9, 1/5, 1/3, ½

Decreasing Order:

1. ½, 1/3, 1/5, 1/7, 1/8

2. ½, ¼, 1/5, 1/6, 1/10
3. 1/3, ¼, 1/5, 1/9, 1/10
4. ½, 1/3, ¼, 1/7, 1/9
5. ½, 1/3, 1/5, 1/9, 1/10
I.Making
Generalization Once again, what is the topic that we discussed in today’s Arrange unit fraction in
discussion? increasing and
decreasing order.
What do we call that one part of a whole where the
numerator is always 1? Unit fraction

denominators
