Session Title: Week 6 Subject and Time:
Session Objectives: By the end of the lesson, the student will make inferences about characters' thoughts
and feelings and answer comprehension questions about the story.

Materials:
● Copy of "Hating Kapatid" short story

● Sticky notes

● Whiteboard/Chart paper

● Markers

● Graphic organizer

● Reading log

Components Duration Activities


1. Greeting and introduction: Greet the student warmly and
establish a positive rapport. Briefly explain the purpose of
the lesson: to work on reading skills with the story "Hating
Kapatid".
2. Activate prior knowledge: Ask the student to think about
their own siblings or close friends. What are some things
Pre-Reading 30 mins they like and dislike about their relationship? Briefly
discuss the concept of fairness and how it can be tricky
sometimes.
3. Preview the story: Show the student the cover art and title
of the story. Ask them to predict what the story might be
about based on what they see.

1. Shared reading: Read the first few paragraphs aloud


together, modeling fluent reading and expression.
Encourage the student to follow along silently.
2. Supported reading: Depending on the student's needs,
choose one of the following approaches:
o Repeated reading: Reread the same section of text
multiple times together, focusing on accuracy and
fluency.
o Echo reading: Read a sentence aloud, and have the
student echo it back, matching your pace and
intonation.
During Reading 110 mins
o Paired reading: Divide the text into smaller
sections and take turns reading aloud with the
student.
3. Monitoring and support: Provide ongoing support and
feedback as the student reads independently. This may
include prompting them to use context clues, sounding out
unfamiliar words, or re-reading challenging sections.
4. Sticky note marking: Encourage the student to use sticky
notes to mark down any interesting words, phrases,
questions, or predictions they have while reading.
