Title of the lesson : Some good manners

Aim : To familiarize students with some expressions related to


good manners for their daily use.

Objectives : By the end of the lesson, students will be able to :

 Pronounce correctly the new expressions


 Identify good manners among a set of expressions
 List five good manners among a set of expressions
 Build five meaningful sentences using some of the taught
expressions to sensitize their classmates.

Pre-requisites : the students have already been taught the


simple present tense, possessions (possessive adjectives and
pronouns, the possessive case) .

Anticipated problems : The students may have difficulties to


pronounce correctly some expressions.

Anticipated solutions : The teacher will focus on the


pronunciation of each expression.

Teaching materials : board, chalk, bucket of water, duster.

Warm-up (4mins)

STAGE I : Presentation (8mins)

Content of the lesson

Procedure

Teacher pronounces loudly an expression three times and asks


students to repeat it chorally, by row and individually. The
teacher writes the expression in question on the board, then
explains it through gestures. Finally, the teacher gives an
illustrative sentence using the expression that the students have
just pronounced.

The teacher proceeds so for all the expressions to be taught. The


expressions to be taught are : To thank , to be polite, to come
on time, to respect, to learn , to be sorry.

1- To thank

Eg : My neighbour gives me a pen. I thank him.

2- To be polite

Eg : The pupils of form I are polite.

3- To respect

Eg : A good pupil always respects his teachers.

4- To learn

Eg : A good pupil always learns his lessons.

5- To be sorry

Eg : I am sorry. I forgot my copybook.


STAGE II : Practice

Activity 1 : Oral and individual

Step 1 : Teacher – students interaction

Instruction : Listen carefully to the following expressions and say


whether they are good manners or not.

1- Issa always come to school on time.


2- This boy always learns his lessons.
3- Aline is not polite.
4- A good pupil respects his teachers.

Step 2 : Students – students interaction

Activity 2 : Written and individual (10mins)

Instruction : List five good manners among the following


expressions.

Eg : To come on time.

Step 1 : Students perform the task. (5mins)

Step 2 : Correction and evaluation. (5mins)

STAGE III : Production (20mins)

Activity : Pair work

Instruction : With your neighbour, build five sentences using


some of the taught expressions to sensitize your classmate.

Step 1 : Task completion. (10mins)

Step 2 : Feedback and adjustment. (10mins)

Note-taking and administrative duties. (7mins)

Follow up :

Instruction : At home, build sentences using good manners to


advise your mate of another school.
