1.0 SCOPE & OBJECTIVES

This method statement details the procedure for surface preparation works and application of
bituminous damp proofing related to the below grade concrete structures.

2.0 REFERANCE

Project Technical Specification Section 07115

3.0 HEALTH AND SAFETY HAZARDS:

Specific safety measures have to follow as applicable, and all the safety measures are covered
separately in the project safety plan.

5.0 RESPONSIBILITIES:

5.1 Construction Manager/Project Engineer-

• CM/PE is overall responsible for the implementation of this method statement.


• The progressing works are carried out according to the planned program and all the equipments
required to execute the works are available as per the project planning and are in good condition
• Co-ordinate with the (CONSULTANT), Project Manager, Site Engineer, Safety Engineer, and
sub-contractor for the safe and proper execution of the work.
• Specific attention to all safety measure and quality control in co-ordination with safety engineer
and QC engineer and in line with HSE plan and Quality plan.

5.2 Site Engineer-

• Damp Proofing works are carried out according to the specification.


• Provide all necessary information and distribute the responsibilities to his construction team.
• Ensure and monitor that the work progress is in accordance with the required program and report
the same to the Construction manager.
• Co-ordinate with the safety engineer to ensure that the works are carried out in a safe working
practice.
• Co-ordinate with the QC engineer for the tests to be carried out and initiate for the inspection for
the finished works.
• Ensure the implementation of any request that might be raised by the (CONSULTANT) Rep.
• Monitor the work of the Damp-Proofing sub contractor.

• Pass all the revised information to the Forman and ensure that it’s being carried out properly.

5.3 QA/QC Engineer-

• Ensure that all the works are carrying out as per the specification and the related quality procedure.
• Inspect and satisfy him self the completed work and requesting for the client’s approval.
• Maintain inspection and test records complete for any future reference.

5.4 Safety Engineer-

• Ensure the implementation of all safety measures in accordance with the HSE plan and everybody
aware of it for it’s proper implementation.
• Ensure all the implemented safety measures are adequate to maintain the safe working on the site
• Inspect all the site activities and train the persons to prevent accidents and its proper reporting to
the project manager and the client.
• Ensure that the site is maintained clean and tidy

5.5 Forman-

• Carrying out the work and the proper distribution of all the available resources in coordination
with the site engineer on a daily basis.
• Daily reports of the works achieved and coordinate for the future planning with the Site engineer.
• Incorporate all the QC and Safety requirements as requested by the concerned Engineer.
• Met with any type of unforeseen incidents or requirements and reporting to the site engineer
immediately.
5.6 Duties and Responsibilities of applicator.

• To coordinate with the site engineers of the main contractor and consultants that area of concrete
surface to be applied is free from all oil, loose materials, the projections, clean and dry before
commencement of work.
• The applicator must be well equipped with personal protective equipment
• To coordinate with main contractor for the approval of inspection of surface to be applied
• The engineer or Forman will ensure that manufacturer instruction and specifications are followed
for correct mixing and application of damp proofing works.
• Necessary checks will be done for smooth progress of application of damp proofing works during
and after completion of works.

6.0 METHODS TO BE EMPLOYED:

6.1 Preparation

• Prior to start the bituminous damp proofing works ensure that the concrete
surfaces are prepared to receive the damp proof coating, and that any required
inspection of the concrete surfaces before coating have been completed.
• Ensure the concrete surfaces to receive the damp proof works are clean, dry,
and free from oil, dust, and dampness.
• Ensure that concrete surfaces are free from irregularities, loose materials, fins,

or other projections.
• All the concrete laitance will be removed by wire brush.
• Cracks (If any) will be repaired by means of approved materials.
• All the blow hole and pin holes will be exposed and will be filled by the
approved materials and as per the damp proofing manufacturer’s
recommendation.
• Formwork tie holes and concrete repair works will be filled with approved
repair material.

6.2 Application

• Ensure that all the manufacture’s instructions are following during the mixing
and application of the damp proofing (MASTERSEAL 406) materials. Damp
proofing works will be done to for under, top and sides of
foundations/footings, sides of Col pedestals, under & sides of grade beams up
to bottom of slab on grade as per attached drawing no JVN-WP-FDN-K-
0025-REV-0 IN TECHNICAL BLOCK, SIMULATOR BLDG,
PEDESTRAIN CHECK POINT BLDG AND ELECTRICAL
SUBSTATION ONLY.
• Application can be either by brush, broom, Trowel or Squeegee.
• Damp proofing will be applied at a rate of 0.8 -1.2 litres/sq.m
• The second coat will be applied perpendicular to the first coat and after 24
hours of first coat curing. Giving a total of 1.2mm thickness.
• Damp proofing will be extended to 150mm beyond the edge of all foundation
and all the damp proofed surfaces will be protected by a 1000 gauge
polyethylene sheet
• Damp proofing will be extended up to the bottom of slab on grade and all the
damp proofed surfaces will be protected by a 1000 gauge polythene sheet.
• Subsequent works will be carried out only after getting the approval from
(CONSULTANT)

7.0 QA/QC PROCEDURE:

7.1 • Before application of any Damp-Proofing works the following documents


will be reviewed and studied to ensure all quality requirements have been
satisfied

7.2 The Site QC Engineer will ensure that the following activities have been

done before and during the Damp-Proofing works through following routine
quality control checks.
• Delivery and storing of the materials are in dry area out of direct sunlight
and as directed by the materials manufactures.
• Ensure that all the associated concrete works, repair works, penetration
works and any corrective actions are finished and approved by Consultant.
• All the substrate surface are clean from laitance, loose materials and other
contaminants
• Cracks and voids are filled with approved materials and by approved
methods.
• Substrate is approved by Consultant and the time of applications is informed
to Consultant.
• Ensure that the application is as per the manufacture’s instructions and at the
rate of 0.8-1.2 L/sqm.
• The second coat is applied at right angel and after 24 Hrs of curing of the
first coat.
• Damp proofing is carried out to the extent as per the drawings and 100mm
on vertical surfaces
• All horizontal and vertical damp proofed surfaces are protected with 1000
gauge polythene sheet.
• Damp-Proofing is inspected and approved by Consultant.

8.0 MANPOWER REQUIREMENT OF SUBCONTRACTOR

• Charge hands
• Experienced technicians.
• Masons.
• Skilled labors.
• Unskilled labors.
• Sub contractor

9.0 MATERIAL REQUIRMENTS:

• Water.
• Approved damp proof material.
• Approved filling materials.
• Approved bonding materials.

10.0 EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENT:

• Hand mixtures.
• Mixing cans.
• Painting brush/roller.
• Wire brush.

11.0 HEALTH AND SAFETY PROVISIONS:

• All the personal involved in the application should wear the safety masks and gloves.
• Only the approved materials with approved supplier will be done this work
• The damp proof material will be stored and handled in a safe manner strictly as per the
manufactures instructions.

12.0 Q.C. APPORVAL AND OTHER DOCUMENTARY REQUIRMENTS:

• All the quality control documentation related to the anti-termite treatment should be approved
before commencing the work. And as follows.
• ITP for Sub-structure Water proofing.
• Project Quality Plan.
• Project HSE plan.
• Check sheets for the Sub-structure Water proofing.

13.0 SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION:

This Method. Statement should be read in conjunction with the below referenced documentations.
• Contract Specification and drawings.
• QCP for Sub-structure Water proofing.
• ITP for Sub-structure Water proofing.
• MS for Excavation, & Concreting for sub structure.
• Project Quality Plan.
• Project HSE Plan.

14.0 DISTRIBUTION;
