Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effects of using TikTok media to the

students, of Caddmax Collage INC. Using random sampling techniques. We asked

50 senior high school students From Caddmax Collage INC, to voluntary participate

in this study. This study utilized a Descriptive Quantitative research design. To collect

data, a Survey-questionnaire was used as an instrument. The participants were

given 10 sets of statements in regards to the research topic and asked to rank the

degree of their agreement from Strongly agree (highest rank of agreement) to

Strongly disagree (lowest rank of agreement). As the result of the Data collection,

27.2% of the respondent says they only agree, and 24.8 disagree. And the Strongly-

agreed 25%, while the Strongly-disagreed 16.4 which give us an overall 100%

weighted mean.

At the end of this research study we found out that TikTok media, have both positive

and negative impacts to the students of Caddmax College Inc. These findings

suggests that the knowledge and awareness of TikTok media usage can help

students build a good academic performances and behavior


Chapter I

Background Of Study

Introduction

In recent years, social media platforms have gained immense popularity

among teenagers, influencing various aspects of their lives, including their academic

learning. One such platform that has witnessed a significant surge in usage is

TikTok. TikTok is a social media app that allows users to create and share short

videos featuring music, dance, comedy, and other content. With its engaging and

addictive nature, TikTok has captivated the attention of many Grade 12 students,

including those enrolled in the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) stream.

The emergence of TikTok has raised concerns about its effects on the

academic learning of students, particularly those in Grade 12 HUMSS. This

background study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the subject

and explore the existing research regarding the topic.

Current State of TikTok Usage


TikTok has become one of the most popular social media platforms amongst

young individuals, including Grade 12 HUMSS students. Its captivating content and

user-friendly interface have contributed to its widespread adoption. Many students

spend a significant amount of their free time scrolling through TikTok, recording

videos, and engaging with the TikTok community.

As one of the most popular video-sharing social networking services, TikTok

has been widely adopted by young people, including grade 12 students. However, its

potential impact on their learning has raised concerns among educators and

researchers.

The study on the impact of TikTok media on the learning performance of

grade 12 students in CCI aims to provide empirical evidence and insights into this

issue. By collecting and analyzing data, researchers seek to understand how the

usage of TikTok affects students' academic achievements, study habits, and overall

educational experience.

Previous studies on the impact of social media on learning have examined

various aspects, such as cognitive effects, information processing, attention span,

and self-regulated learning. They have also explored the potential benefits and

drawbacks of incorporating social media into educational settings. However, the

specific focus on TikTok media and its influence on grade 12 students in CCI allows

researchers to delve deeper into the unique factors surrounding this particular social

media platform.

By conducting surveys, interviews, and analyzing academic records, the study

aims to identify the potential positive and negative effects of TikTok on students'

learning performance. The research findings will contribute to a better understanding


of the role of TikTok in education and inform educators, parents, and policymakers

about the best practices in utilizing social media platforms for productive learning

outcomes.
Statement of the problem

GENERAL OBJECTIVE

General Objective of studying the impact of Tiktok media on the learning

performance of grade 12 students in caddmax college INC. It would be to

understand how Tiktok media can affects the students in academic performance and

learning The outcomes. studying the impact of tiktok media on learning performance

aims to contribute to the understanding of how digital media platforms can shape

students learning experience and provide valable insights for educational institutions

to optimize the use of such platformu in a way that enhanced learning outcomes. and

it also need to Investigate in various subjects or courses. And to identify the potential

advantages and disadvantage of Tiktok's influence on learning performance,

including any positive or negative impacts on students study habits, time

management, and four. and to provide insights that can guide educators,

administrators, and policy makers in developing effective strategies for integrating

TikTok or other social media platforms into educational setting, maximizing the

benefits while minimizing the drawbacks

Specifically, this study sought to answer the following questions.

According to table 2 the highest statements is agreed with the weighted mean

13.6% next to is disagree with 12.4 and the strongly agree with 12. 5% and lastly 8

strongly disagree which is the last weighted mean.

Definition of Terms

The following we define operationally:

Academic performance- is the measurement of the student’s achievement across the

various academic subject

TikTok-TikTok is a social media platform that allows users to create and share short-

form videos typically set to music. Launched in 2016, TikTok has gained widespread

popularity for its user-friendly interface and the ability for users to easily create and

engage with entertaining content, often incorporating music, dances, and various

creative challenges. The platform has become a significant player in the social media

landscape, particularly among younger demographics.

-Negative effects of TikTok: has potential negative effects such as time distraction,

inappropriate content, cyberbullying, privacy concerns, and impact on self-esteem.

Excessive use can lead to time-wasting, exposure to explicit material, and mental

health issues. Users should exercise digital literacy and engage responsibly to

mitigate these negative effects.

Positive effects of TikTok

 Creativity and Self-expression:* TikTok provides a platform for users to

express themselves creatively through short-form videos, fostering

individuality and artistic expression.

 Community Building:* Users can connect with others who share similar

interests, forming supportive communities and fostering a sense of belonging.


 Educational Content: TikTok has become a platform for educational content,

with users sharing informative and instructional videos on a wide range of

topics, making learning more accessible and engaging.

 Career Opportunities: TikTok has served as a launching pad for individuals to

showcase their talents, gaining recognition and even creating career

opportunities in various fields such as entertainment, music, and content

creation.

 Global Awareness: Trends and challenges on TikTok can spread quickly,

raising awareness about social issues and promoting discussions on a global

scale.

 While acknowledging these positive aspects, it's important for users to use

TikTok responsibly and be aware of potential challenges associated with its

use.
Significance of the study
This study aims to provide valuable insights, into the evolving relationship

between social media platforms like Tiktok and student karning outcomes. By

examining the impact of tiktok, we will enchance our understanding of how this

medium influence Grade 12 students academic engagement and performance The

finding of this study can be utilized to inporm educational institutions, teachers, and

policymakers about the strengths and limitations of Tiktok as an educational tool or

potential distraction, enabling the development of evidence-based strategies to

enchance student learning and mitigate any negative effects


Scope and delimitation of the study
The general intent of this study is focus on finding out the impacts or effects of

using TikTok media. And it's having a both positive and negative towards on the

behavior and academic performances of the students. The primary subject of this

research study will cover the senior high school student of CADDMAX COLLAGE

INC. Of the city of Zamboanga.

S.Y. 2023-2024. This scope of this study will be limited in 50 Students of

senior high school, who are enrolled under the Caddmax Collage INC.
Purpose of this study
The purpose of this study on the impact of TikTok media in learning

performance. To be able to investigate how the engagement with the platform may

influence academic outcomes. Researchers aim to:

1. 1. Understand Correlations. Explore potential correlations between TikTok

usage patterns and learning performance among students.

2. Identify Trends.

3. Analyze trends in content consumption and user behavior on TikTok to identify

any patterns that might be linked to academic success or challenges.

4. Inform Educational Practices.

5. Provide insights for educators, policymakers, and parents on how to navigate

and integrate social media into educational settings effectively.

6. 4. Enhance Digital Literacy. Contribute to the development of digital literacy

strategies, helping students use platforms like TikTok responsibly without

compromising their academic achievements.

distractions, inappropriate content, and other potential negative impacts that

TikTok might have on students' learning experiences.

Researchers aim to offer a nuanced understanding of the relationship

between TikTok usage and academic performance, enabling informed discussions

on how to optimize the educational environment in the context of evolving digital

media landscapes.

how it's used. It's a tool, and like any tool, its effect is largely determined by the user.

In the academic perspective on TikTok media, There’s a growing body of literature on

this topic given the platform's rapid rise in popularity.

educational tool. For instance, educators are using it to create short, engaging

lessons, and students are using it to showcase their learning creatively.

PERCEPTION

Focus Groups, Organize focus group discussions with teenagers to


encourage open discussions on the social and psychological impacts of TikTok,
exploring themes such as self-esteem, body image, and social relationships.

Observations, Observe and document the behaviors and interactions of teenagers


on TikTok, both individually and within peer groups, to gain a deeper understanding
of their engagement with the platform.

Academic Performance Analysis, Analyze academic records to identify any


correlations between TikTok usage and students' grades or academic achievements.

Ethical Considerations:

Obtain informed consent from participants and ensure their anonymity and
confidentiality throughout the research process.

Comply with ethical guidelines and regulations regarding research involving human
subjects.

Seek permission from Caddmax College Inc. authorities to conduct the


research within the institution.

Provide participants with the option to withdraw from the study at any time
without facing any consequences.

Expected Outcomes:

This research aims to provide insights into the impact of TikTok media
on teenagers at Caddmax College Inc. It will contribute to a better understanding of
how TikTok influences their academic performance, study habits, social interactions,
and overall well-being. The findings can inform educators, parents, and policymakers
to develop strategies that promote responsible and balanced TikTok usage among
teenagers.
