Panimula REQUIREMENTS
Hair Perming involves the application of potentially harmful chemicals. Therefore, the
care you take in handling products and preparing yourself and the client is critical for
safe and successful perming. Health and safety are important to keep people safe and
prevent them from harm.
• Always gown your client properly so that they are protected from spillages of
chemicals.
• Always wear the PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) provided by the salon
every time you apply hair perming.
• Wear disposable gloves, dry hands thoroughly and regularly moisturizers to
prevent contact dermatitis.
• All tools and equipment should be cleaned and visually inspected the cleanliness
of all items.
• Disposable neck wraps are preferred for use on each client. If using cloth neck
wraps, they must be washed before being re-used on another client.
• Use clean capes and gowns for each client and should be washed daily or earlier
if soiled.
• Applicator bottles should be washed in warm water and detergent every after
each client. Rinse. Dry with cloth.
• Use trolleys to move products and minimize spillage. Equipment trolley can be
cleaned by using cloth to remove hair. Cover when not in use.
• Routine cleaning of working area. Disinfectant should only be used on equipment
or surfaces that have first been cleaned with a detergent based product.
• Hazardous chemicals or substances should be handled and stored securely and
risk of emission should be controlled.
Personal Protective Equipment - commonly referred to as "PPE", is an equipment worn
to minimize exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses.
1. Mask - a cover for the face or part of the face used for disguise or protection.
2. Gloves - a covering for the hand worn for protection against cold or dirt and
typically having separate parts for each finger and the thumb.
3. Goggles - protective glasses set in a flexible frame (as of rubber or plastic) that
fits snugly against the face.
4. Hair net/Cap/Bonnet - a net worn over the hair to keep it in place.
5. Face shield - are plastic face visors that provide full face protection.
6. Earmuffs - They consist of a thermoplastic or metal head-band, that fits over the
top or back of the head, and a cushion or cup at each end, to cover the external
ears.
7. Apron/Gown - garment usually of cloth, plastic, or leather usually tied around the
waist and used to protect clothing .
