The teacher will show situation and students will identify each word that
starts with letters H, E, A, T

1. Hot
2. Energized
3. Air
4. Temperature

B. Establishing a purpose for the  Ask the student about his or her experience/s involving heat
lesson energy in their everyday lives.
1. While drinking coffee, have you tried heating your
palms by holding the cup/mug?
2. When you go to a beach/ resort/ river to swim, do you want the
heat coming from the sun warming your face?
3. Have you experienced your clothes being burned while ironing
it?
4. While cooking, have you experienced getting burned by
accidentally touching the stove or casserole?

C. Presenting examples/instances of Questions:

the new lesson 1. Of the above-mentioned things that you have experienced about
what could it be?
2. What do you think our topic for today?

D. Discussing new concept and Heat Transfer: Conduction, Convection, and Radiation
practicing new skills #1 What is Heat Transfer?
 Heat transfer is the movement of heat energy from one substance
to another.
 Heat energy always moves from a warmer substance to a cooler
substance.
 Heat will continue to move until both substances are the same
temperature.
 The greater the difference in temperature between the substances,
the faster the heat will transfer.

There are three types of heat transfer:

1. Conduction
2. Convection
3. Radiation

Conduction- heat transfer by conductions is the transfer to heat through

direct contact.
Examples:
a. Holding metal spoon in hot stove
b. Walking barefoot on hot sand
c. Ironing clothes
d. Touching hot pan

Convection- heat transfer by convection is the transfer of heat through that

fluid (liquid and gases) movement of currents. Warm fluids rise, cool,
down, sink, and then are warmed again.
Examples:
a. Hot air balloons
b. Boiling water
c. Snow melting
d. See breeze
Radiation- heat transfer by radiation is the transfer of heat through
electromagnetic waves. There is no direct contact between the substances.
Examples:
a. Standing in the sun of in front of a fireplace to warm up.
b. Ultraviolet light from the sun
c. Heat from a stove burner
E. Discussing new concept and Identify the examples below.
practicing new skills #2 (EXPLORE) 1. Which type of heat transfer cooks in the pizza in the oven?
Answer: convection
2. Which type of heat transfer makes a hot air balloon rise?
Answer: convection
3. Which type of heat transfer does an ice pack have if you hurt your
head?
Answer: conduction
4. Which type of heat transfer creates the wind?
Answer: convection
5. Which type of heat transfer touching a hot pot?
Answer: conduction

F. Developing mastery (Leads to Directions: Divide the class into 4 groups. Create a web diagram. Write
formative assessment) examples of heat transfer that belong to conduction, convection, and
radiation.
G. Finding practical/application Questions:
of concepts and skills in daily living 1. Why heat transfer is important in our daily life?
2. What experiences have you had that you can relate to the heat
transfer?
E. (Making generalizations and QUESTIONS:
abstractions about the lesson) 1. What are the three types of heat transfer?
(ELABORATE) 2. Give the examples of each type of heat transfer?
H. Evaluating Learning (Evaluation) Direction: Choose the correct answer. Write your answer in your science
notebook.
