purpose of the lesson
(5 minutes) aware on the importance of understanding the concepts about hazard, exposure
and vulnerabilities that may be applied in everyday situations.
The teacher will post one picture and they will answer the given guide questions.
C. Presenting
examples/instances of
the new lesson
(5 minutes)
practicing new Hazard is a harmful condition, substance, human behavior or condition that can
skills#1 cause loss of life, injury or other health effects.
(10 minutes)
Exposure is the presence of elements at risk or chance of being harmed from a
natural or man-made hazard event.
Risk implies the probability of possible adverse effects. This results from the
interaction of social and environmental systems, from the combination of physical
danger, and exposed item vulnerabilities.
Exposure to hazard can make a community vulnerable. But not all communities
that are exposed to hazard can be considered vulnerable. Vulnerability depends on
the preparedness and readiness to a hazard of the community.
Disaster mitigation measures are those that eliminate or reduce the impacts and
risks of hazards by means of proactive measures taken before an emergency or
disaster takes place.
The teacher will give a group activity/ task. Instructions will be given to them. After
10 minutes, one representative from each group will present their outputs to the rest
of the class.
Direction: Analyze the picture below and answer the questions that follow.
E. Discussing new
concepts and
practicing new skills#2
(15 minutes)
1. What can you say about the picture? What does the quotation mean?
2. What is the hazard in the picture/ situation?
3. What is being exposed in the picture/ situation?
4. Why do you think the character in the picture is vulnerable?
F. Finding practical You were just a Grade 11 student but elected as Batang Kagawad in your small
applications of community. You thought of a first project you want to impose. Think of ways or
concepts and skills in actions of how are you going to implement this project in your community to help
daily living and make it less vulnerable to hazard?
(5 minutes)
G. Making generalizations To summarize today’s topic, the teacher will give a question and students should
and abstractions about answer it.
