Waving The Latest Issue of A Magazine or Screaming The Headlines of The Newspapers
I was about nine years old when we moved into our own flat behind the
National stadium. This was on a raised piece of land, so on a clear day you
could see the white dome of Quaid-e-Azam’s mausoleum. This was in 1980. As
more families moved in, I soon made friends with other boys of my age. All of
us came from different backgrounds and went to different schools, but we
were very closed and enjoined many adventures and good times together.
Holidays and other festive occasions were great fun as we looked forward to
the Eidi from our elders: the money would be pooled and see the latest action
film! Today, twenty years later we are still in touch, although we have moved
to other parts of the city and even the country. We are united by our common
childhood and its happy memories, for these are deeper and stronger ties than
the difference that was superficial and did not matter.
