Different kinds of Religious Festivals
1. ATI-ATIHAN

Festival dances are cultural dances
performed to the strong beats or
percussion instruments by community of
people sharing the same culture usually
done in honor of a Patron saint or as a
thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest.
Festival dances draw the people’s way
of life through MOVEMENTS,
COSTUMES and IMPLEMENTS IN
INHERENT to their place of ORIGIN.
Nature of Festival Dances:
A. Cultural with religious influence
These are dances characterize by
movements showing reverence to
religious icon believe to have interceded
in their personal life. To them this
celebration is an expression of thanks
giving for a bountiful harvest and for a
favor or request granted to them through
divine intercession.
B. Non- Religious festival
is a festival or feast that is not
celebrated to commemorate any of the
Gods and deities. Some of the non-
religious festival are celebrated just give
fun and entertain people just like the
METR MANILA FILM FESTIVAL in the
Philippines every 22nd of December.

Feast held in third Sunday of January in
honor of SANTO NINO (Infant Jesus), in
KALIBO AKLAN. The name of “Ati-
Atihan” means to be like Aeta’s or
“Make believe Ati’s”
The festival consists of TRIBAL DANCE,
MUSIC accompanied by indigenous
costumes and weapons and parade
along the street.
 2. MORIONES (Learner 2)
Feast held every holy week, It is a
colorful festival celebrated on the island
of Marinduque in the Philippines. The
Moriones or Moryonan tradition has
developing stronger muscles, reducing
body fat, and lessening the risk of
developing diabetes or high blood
pressure.

3. DINAGYANG (Learner 3)
Is a Religious and cultural festival in
Ilo-Ilo City, Philippines held on the
fourth Sunday of January. It held
both to honor the Sto. Nino and to
celebrate the arrival on Panay of
Malay settler and the subsequent
selling of the island to the by altis.

4. SINULOG (Learner 4)
The FAMOUS FESTIVAL in Cebu
City, is held in every year on the third
Sunday of January. The festival is
characterize by a very long parade
dressed in colorful costumes, finding
their way through the streets while
dancing Siulog.

5. FEAST OF OUR LADY OF (Learner 5)

PENAFRANCIA Celebrated on the third Saturday of
September in Naga City, Bicol. This
feast day is preceded by a novena,
nine-day prayer in honor of the
Virgin. (copy of the Madonna in
Penafrancia)

6. PAHIYAS (Learner 6)
One of the country’s biggest and
most colorful harvest festival every
15th of May, along the harvest
festival of the towns of Tayabas,
Sariaya, Gumaca and Tiaong. This
