Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Greetings & Preliminaries

being called
Let me checked the attendance first. As I call your
name say present

Very good! You’re all present.

B. Review of the past lesson

Before we proceed to the next lesson, who wants

to give a short summary to the previous lesson?

Anyone?
About different drafting materials and equipment
used in technical drafting sir
Very good!

Give me an example of materials?

Paper sir
Very good!

Now what is the difference among the 3?

Tools are not consumable sir, materials are

consumable and equipments are like tools but
much bigger
Very good!

C. Motivation

Do you want to play class?

Yes sir!

Directions. Count off one to ten.

Now remember your number, and I have here a
wheel numbered from 1 to 10 also corresponds to
each of your numbers.
Im going to spin the wheel and when it stops, all
students who have the same number with the
number the arrow points to will stand and play
jack and point. They will play until one only
remains representing their particular number. The
said representor will now have to answer the
questions I have prepared.
Twist: those who failed to answer will dance in
front of the class
Did you enjoy the game class? Yes sir

Are you sure!

Okay very good, as you can see all those

questions are all related to our topic for today. Its
not enough to just use tools, materials, equipment
and other paraphernalia, you also need to
maintain them.

D. Lesson proper
To start our discussion proper, let me
present first our objectives for today.
At the end of the lesson, learners should
be able to;

a. Perform safety procedures in

maintaining hand tools, drawing
instruments equipment, and
paraphernalia
b. Follow procedures in cleaning,
tightening and simple repair of hand (students are listening)
tools, drawing instruments,
equipment, and paraphernalia
c. Identify common malfunction
(unplanned or unusual events) when
using tools, drawing instruments,
equipment, and paraphernalia

So when we say maintain what’s the first word

that comes to your mind?

To take care of it sir

Okay, very good!

Now the question is why there is a need to take

care of your drafting tools, materials and
equipment? Anyone from the class?
For longer service life sir

Exactly! What else

Yes, it is! Very good. To keep the efficiency of every drafting instrument

Who wants to add something?

Yes mr(student)

Okay that’s precisely it very good class. Lets It enables the draftsman to save time in the future
continue then,
Kindly read, Mr.(student)?

Freehand drawing

Some common good practices in handling and

caring for your drafting tools

 Pencils
- Practice cleaning the pencil by using a
clean cloth
Thank you Mr.(student)
- Sharpen the pencil when needed
Meaning you need to clean, sharpen and place - Store them in a case and avoid dropping
you pencils in a pencil case to maintain their them
quality.

Okay next read ms(student)

Straightedges, triangles and similar plastics

and polyvinyl tools

 Never use plastic and wooden tools as a

cutting guide to avoid damaging the
edges

 Keep them away for direct sunlight or very

hot places to avoid warping

 Store them in their proper containers or

cases

Thank you  Clean them regularly

So, what does it mean when we say polyvinyl?

okay very good, I have a question then what’s the Plastics sir that are hard
best way to store T-square?
Sir you can hang them when not in use.
That’s correct. Very good!

Next please read.

Compasses and Dividers

 Use soap and water to clean them

 Clean the adjustments and thumb screws

 Store them in a dry place

Okay thank you. What do you think is the most
common problem when it comes to compass and
divider?

What happens to their knots and bolts? Sir their knot and bolt part

Very good. Next lets proceed with materials or the

things that are said to be consumable.

Kindly read Mr.(student) It may rust sir or it may lose thread.

Other drafting materials such as papers and

tapes.

 Store them in a dry place

 Don’t reuse because these materials are

supposed to be single-used only

Can anyone of you tell me why draftsman usually

 Rolled papers should be stacked
roll their paper instead of folding them?
separately

Yes, very good! Another one is because its more

Sir it is because when you fold them it will leave a
convenient for them. Since the drafting paper
where they make floorplans and blue prints are mark which may ruin the output
quite big. Its easier for them to carry it around
when they roll them instead of folding.

Are we clear?

Okay lets proceed to drafting furnitures

Read ms.(student)
Crystal sir.

Thank you, to sum that all up its simply keeping  Immediately remove stains and dirt marks
your workplace clean all the time.
from the table
To generalize everything we have discussed so
far, pay attention everyone
 Avoid using craft knife over the drafting
Proper care and maintenance table when cutting
1. Avoid dropping them

2. Use for its purpose  Do not put any container that may
accidentally spill liquid or food in the
3. Wipe off surfaces and edge
drafting furniture
4. Organize them properly after use

5. Never lend or borrow drafting tools and

materials if may.

Next lets proceed with the usual defects of

drafting tools and equipment
No sir
What do you call the process of examining the
quality of your tools?

Why there is a need to inspect?

Precisely. Very good.

Please read(student)

Inspection sir

Thank you. What tools are most likely to have this In order to maintain the quality and to detect
defect? defects that may ruin the output of the draftsman

Okay very good, what else? sir

Okay those tools that have straightedges, correct?

Usual defects to look when evaluating the
Next defect condition of drafting tools and equipment

Please read, miss(student)

a tool’s edge on a hard surface or by dropping it. It

have this defect
Ruler sir
Okay that’s correct. Very good besides from
plastic tools we also have pencil which may have
cracks if droped. Protractor sir and triangles

Next. Kindly read(student)

Yes sir
Where do you usually see this defect? CRACKS- occur when tools are bent, drooped or
subjected to strong impact.

Very good. Pencil sir

Next please read

So its not advisable to expose your tools with FADED OR SCRATCHED MARKS- caused by
direct sunlight since they are plastic they may
warp. misuse and improper storage making the marks
vanish.
Next please read

Measuring instruments sir such as ruler, triangles,

protractors, and t squares

Usually applicable for what tool?

Okay exactly, very good.

WARPED SURFACES- caused by exposing
plastic tools to extreme temperature
Next please read

- That’s it! That’s the last common defect

tools usually encounter in technical
drafting. Do you have questions?
MISSING PARTS AND RUSTING- caused by
- Any clarifications?
- Negative reactions? improper storage of tools

Compass and divider sir

If none let’s proceed to your activity.

DULL POINTS- usually on pencils, dividers and

compass.

None sir.
E. Evaluation
For your activity its going to be a 5 mins writing
test
Directions. I will give you a scenario and your
going to reflect or give your idea about it.

Scenario

The teacher asked the learners to create their

dream house one day. Each students brought out
their drafting tools and materials and they started
making their own output. Ben , on the other hand,
forgets his ruler and t square which is necessary
for making detailed lines in his house. He then
wants to borrow tools from Kevin, his friend,
whom happens to be the most attentive student in
their class and whom happen to have a complete
set of tools and materials.

If you were Ben would you lend Kevin your

drawing paraphernalia? Defend your answer.
