Participating in the oral recitation quiz facilitated by Mr. Kerry Jed Bernido was an experience
that left a significant impression on me. Walking into the room alongside my peers from Immaculate
Heart of Mary Academy's grade 11 Humanities and Social Sciences class, I felt a mixture of nerves
and excitement. Little did I know, this quiz would not only challenge my understanding of the
course material but also provide me with a unique learning experience. The format of the quiz, a
group discussion led by Mr. Bernido, immediately caught my attention. It felt refreshing compared
to traditional assessment methods, offering a more interactive and engaging approach to evaluating
our comprehension. As we delved into the topics covered in class, I found myself actively
participating in the discussion, eager to share my insights and understanding.
However, it wasn't until I was called to Mr. Bernido's office along with two other classmates
that the true intensity of the assessment hit me. My heart pounded with anticipation as we stood
before him, ready to answer his question. Yet, what seemed like a simple inquiry turned out to be a
challenge to define a thesis statement. Despite my initial confidence in my understanding, I faltered
in my response, feeling the weight of his expectations. In that moment, I realized the value of such
assessments. They pushed me beyond the surface level of knowledge, demanding a deeper
understanding and articulation of concepts. While my initial response may have fallen short, the
constructive feedback provided by Mr. Bernido allowed me to reflect on my understanding and
areas for improvement.
Leaving his office that day, I couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment mixed with a
newfound determination to further enhance my understanding of the course material. The oral
recitation quiz not only assessed my knowledge but also served as a catalyst for growth,
highlighting the importance of continuous learning and refinement of skills. Looking back, I see the
oral recitation quiz as more than just an assessment tool. It was a transformative learning
experience that challenged me to think critically, communicate effectively, and embrace feedback as
a means of improvement. As I continue my academic journey, I carry with me the lessons learned
from this experience, knowing that each challenge is an opportunity for growth.
