Reflection on DRRM Presentation

Our country is considered as the most vulnerable to get hit by natural hazards such
as geological hazard, hydro-meteorological, and biological hazards. However, Philippines
is also experiencing disasters that are caused by human activities such as environmental
degradation and technological hazards. But the question is, why does Philippines is prone
to natural disasters?
Based on what I have learned on the DRRM presentation, the reason why we
experience such hazards is not just because of its geographical location but also because
of human behaviors and activities. Every year, Philippines would experience 20 typhoons,
earthquakes, storm surge, landslides, etc. Recently, we also encountered a disastrous
biological hazard. In accord to the presentation of group 3, their video conveys that
biological hazard is a threat to the health of people which includes viruses and bacteria.
One of the best example for this is the COVID-19 virus. However, this unfortunate
circumstance could be avoided via implementing preventive measurements. Moreover,
geological hazards which explained and presented by group 1, it is a type of disaster
which is based on the earth's biosphere such as earthquakes, volcanic eruption, and
landslides. This type of disruptive event is impossible to avoid because it is unpredictable
and can happen anytime, all we need to do is to be aware and prepared beforehand.
Furthermore, based on the presentation of group 4 and group 5, technological hazards
and environmental degradation is a disaster which resulted from human activities. For the
technological hazards, it is a danger that originates from technological and industrial
activities such as industrial pollution, nuclear activities, and radio activity. Environmental
degradation on the other hand is a hazard which destroys the natural processes because
of deforestation, climate change, land degradation, and loss of biodiversity.
On my opinion, since we humans are primary suspects why we experienced such
disasters; we must also take responsibility on taking care of our environment. What we
did to our nature will get back right to us. We must stop the neglection of our environment
and alter our actions that can at least benefit and help our surroundings to flourish itself.
