IV. PROCEDURE
A. Reviewing the previous lesson Preliminaries
or presenting the new lesson Daily Routine
▪Greetings
“Good day class. How are you today?” “Good day ma’am. We are
all fine!”
▪Prayer
▪ Please stand up and let us pray. President, please lead the “Amen”
prayer.

▪Attendance checking
▪So far all of you are present! “Present ma’am.”

Review the past discussion

▪Before we proceed to our formal discussion let’s have first
a recapitulation about the previous discussion.

“Can anyone recapitulate what we have discussed last

meeting?” “Last meeting we discussed
about selecting and
preparing the materials for
cutting ma’am”.__student 1

“I have learned about

Alright very good. “What have you learned about our past soaking, it is being done
discussion? with the material folded in a
basis of water”.__student 2

“ I learned about
straightening, it is done to
straighten grainlines
necessary before cutting
”__student 3.
B. Establishing a purpose for the ▪Now, I brought some materials and I want you to name all
lesson of these.

“Is that clear” “Yes ma’am”

“Okay, this first material class, what do you call this one?” “Zipper ma’am’

“How about the second device class?”

“Button’s ma’am”
“Very good, and what can you say about this picture class?
What is this?”
“Different kinds of
▪Wow! All of you got the correct answers. Those pictures are fasteners”
what we called fasteners.

“What comes to your mind, when you heard the word

fastener?” “For me ma’am fasteners
are those pictures that you
have showed earlier. So,
fasteners are devices used to
close the opening of
garments and facilitate their
wearing. This includes
zippers, buttons, snaps,
hook and eye, and
nylon tapes.”

“Yes ma’am”
“Class have you already encountered the newest fastener?”

“Where did you commonly see this kind of fastener?”

“In our cup ma’am”
C. Presenting ▪Now, since you already encountered the different kinds of

lesson
▪I have here different examples of basting and stitches. Let’s
begin from basting, all you have to do is to guess it based on
your own observation about the sample picture.

“Do you know that we have three (3) kinds of basting”.

“Yes ma’am”
“With these three pictures, have you observed some
differences between the three class?”
“Yes ma’am. The first
picture is a set of running
stitches with equal length
and spaces. The second
pictures is a combination of
long and short running
stitches. While the last
picture is a set of short
vertical stitches on the
underside about 1 inch
apart.”
▪Correct, for you to familiarize each I will introduce this one
by one.

(presenting first picture)

“Please read the first kind of basting class” “Even Basting”

https://thedailysew.com/blog/2018/04/sewing-by-hand-even-
basting-uneven-basting-tailor-basting/

“When we say even basting is a set of running stitches, with

equal length and spaces. It is used to hold sleeves in the
armscye, the shape or outline of the armhole. It is also used
to baste seams which must be held securely.”

“Okay thank you, the next kind of basting please read” “Uneven Basting”

https://thedailysew.com/blog/2018/04/sewing-by-hand-even-
basting-uneven-basting-tailor-basting/

“The uneven basting is a combination of long and short

running stitches. “

“And the last kind of basting, please read again class”

“Diagonal basting is a set of short vertical stitches on the “Diagonal Basting”

underside about one inch apart, the thread then falling into
slanting stitches on the surface of the fabric. These holds
two layers of fabric together to prevent slipping.

“Very good class, we are done of the kinds of basting. Do

you still have any questions, clarifications?”

“None ma’am.”
D. Discussing new concepts and ▪Lately, I’ve showed about the different kinds of fasteners
practicing new skills #1 which zipper, hook and eye, snaps, buttons, and nylon tape.

“Class, do you know that there are three (3) basic types of
zippers?” “Not yet ma’am”

The first one is “Conventional zipper”. The conventional

zipper is the most common type among the three”

https://www.doinaalexei.com/sewing-zippers-general-
information.html

The second one is “invisible zipper, is sewed in such a way

that is conceal in the seam”.
https://www.doinaalexei.com/sewing-zippers-general-
information.html

The last one is “separating zipper means separates

completely”.

“Yes ma’am”

“The three types of zippers

are conventional, invisible,
and separating zipper”.

“Yes ma’am, we are aware

of it”
https://www.doinaalexei.com/sewing-zippers-general-
information.html “it is made up of woods, or
plastics”
“Understood?”

“Again, will you enumerate those three?” “ma’am the right side of the
picture is snaps while the
left side pictures are what
we called hook and eye”.

“Do you know that buttons are among the most popular
fasteners?”
“The difference between the

and sewed to the garment in
▪We also have two (2) types of buttons: its lower portion while the
sew-through has holes
“First one is the shank. And the second one is sew-though.” through which the button is
sewed.”

“What do you think is the difference between the two?”

E. Discussing new concepts and ▪Now, let’s move forward to hand stitches. Before anything
practicing new skills #2 else let us define first the definition of hand stitches.

“What comes into your mind when you heard hand stitches
class” “It is all about permanent
stitches that are essential in
the construction of clothes.
Yes, that is correct. Now, I will present to you the six (6) “
types of hand stitches

[Presenting the six (6) stitches]

1. Running Stitch (presenting on the slide)

https://www.needlenthread.com/2011/12/running-stitch-
darning.html
“Is weaving the needle
evenly in and out of the
“Okay class please read the definition of running stitch”
fabric ¼ each long before
pulling the thread through.
This is used for easing and
gathering sleeves.”

“Is useful for seams that are

ripped.”
2. Back Stitching (presenting)

https://www.needlenthread.com/2011/12/running-stitch-
darning.html

“It has the appearance of a machine stitch on the right side,

but the stitches overlap on the opposite side. With right side
together, one should follow the seamline bringing the needle
through the fabric to the upper side by 1/8 inch and taking a
back stitch of ¼ inch and bringing the needle out again.”

3. Slip stitch (presenting) “Is use to hem. It provides

an almost invisible finish.”

https://www.needlenthread.com/2011/12/running-stitch-
darning.html

“It is done by sliding the needle through the folded edge and
at the same point picking up a thread of the under fabric
taking ¼ stitches one after the other.”
“Is used for hems finished
4. Hemming Stitch (presenting) with seam binding,
especially when the
garments are not
underlined.”

https://www.needlenthread.com/2011/12/running-stitch-
darning.html

” This is done by taking a tiny inconspicuous sti

tch in the garment through the edge of about ¼ apart.”

5. Blind Stitch (presenting)

“Is used for hemming and
holding facings in lace and
is a noticeable on both side
of the garment.”

https://www.needlenthread.com/2011/12/running-stitch-
darning.html
”To do this, one should take ¼ horizontal
stitch through one thread of the garment, then stitch
diagonally above. One should not pull the stitch tight.”

6. Overcast Stitch (presenting) “Is used to finish row edges

to prevent raveling.”

https://www.needlenthread.com/2011/12/running-stitch-
darning.html

F. Developing mastery ▪We will be having a game.

“Are you ready?” “Yes ma’am”

Direction:
Group yourself into two (2). The group will create
two lines, first line will be the group 1, and the second line
will be the group 2. Every first front of the group will do a”
pick pack boom”, those who win will name the kind of stitch
and the loss will act it accordingly. The group that has many
of the correct answer is the winner.

“Did you get it class?”

“Got it ma’am”
G. Finding Practical “Class for instance when you sew a garment and then you do “We can used hook and eye
applications of concepts and not want to use a button because you hate having ma’am to prevent
skills buttonholes of your garment. What kind of fastener will you buttonholes”.
substitute?”

“Yes, very good class. We can use hook and eye as a

substitute to avoid buttonholes.”

H. Making generalizations and ▪Since we are done with this topic. Let us recall first our
abstractions about the lesson discussion before we proceed to our next activity.

“What have you learned about fasteners?”

“We have learned that
fasteners have five types.
Those are zipper, buttons,
snaps, hook and eye, and
nylon tape.”

“How about the three kinds of basting. What are those?” “Those are even, uneven,
and diagonal basting.”

“What about the hand stitches class?” “We have six types of hand
stitches, those are running
stitch, back stitch, slips
stitch, hemming stitch, blind
stitch, and overcast stitch.”
I. Evaluating Learning ▪Let’s have another activity class. This is individual.

Direction:
Sew the six (6) kinds of hand stitch. And paste it
in an illustration board with their names.

You will be rated by this rubric provided below.

Criteria Sore
1. Appearance 20 pts
2. Creativity 30 pts
Total 50 pts
J. Additional activities for “Next meeting please bring with you a scissors, thread,
application or remediation needle, and a cloth or any kind of unused fabric in your
home. All of it is individual.”

“Clear?” “Yes ma’am”
