Outcome Reflection 5 – Synthesizing Sources and Contributing Knowledge
1. How has this assignment helped you engage in your chosen outcome? Did you write
about one of the goals in the outcomes, or did you apply the skills talked about in each
one?
- For this reflection, I will be looking at Group Activity 4, and will be reflecting
on the Contributing Knowledge outcome. For this assignment, we got into
groups and analyzed different research texts, and specifically analyzed how a
given research-based text addressed their research question and how/where they
synthesized different sources throughout their text and research. This essentially
goes in line with the contributing knowledge outcome, as we had to look at how
a certain author analyzed primary and secondary texts and then drew
conclusions from these texts, how these sources added to the research that was
being presented, and how they were synthesized to contribute overall
knowledge to the research. Therefore, applying the skills of the Contributing
Knowledge outcome.
2. What is something, whether it be a concept or a personal realization, that you learned
while engaging in this assignment? Or, if you didn't learn anything, what did you find
useful about this exercise?
- I found this exercise useful, as it allowed me to go into more detail on how
sources are used and synthesized in research, and how outside sources can help
develop and answer your research question overall if used correctly. It also
taught me how many sources are truly used in research, and how they are often
used throughout a research text to add to research and make conclusions.

3. What do you want to say about the process, whether it be during the brainstorming
process or after the final due date of a finished assignment?

- For this assignment, we worked in groups to analyze the different research texts,
so we had to work together to find the synthesis of sources and how the texts
used were used and analyzed. Doing this process taught me a lot about how
everyone can offer different perspectives for non-concrete ideas/concepts and
contribute in a different way. As, not everyone has the same view for writing
and texts.
