The School’s Division of Davao City initiated the Reading Development Program
in support of the thrust of the Department of Education to make every Filipino child a
reader. The objective of this program is to conduct reading remediation to struggling
learners. This was anchored to the principle that every learner should be able to read in
his or her grade level. Teachers give support in the full implementation of the 8-Week
plan to ensure that the reading level of the concerned struggling readers are improved
to instructional level before the opening of class. The reading materials that the
teachers used for the program was based from the contextualized available reading
tools from all districts and clusters.

The 8-Week Reading Remediation program that the division of Davao City
implemented was found effective especially in learners’ reading level as shown in the
Achievement Rate of the learners. The target learners in this program have improved
after the 8th week implementation of the said program and the target students reached
by the said project is significantly massive.
