Preliminary Activities
Good morning, class! Good morning, Ma’am!

How are you, class? We’re doing great, Ma’am.

May I call on Danica to lead the prayer. (Danica will pray)

Thank you, Danica for that heartfelt prayer.

Who are absent today? There are no absent today.

It’s good to know that all of you are present!

Before we proceed to our new lesson, what did I learned about the Comparative Anatomy and
you learn last meeting? Embryonic Development.

What is Comparative Anatomy? Comparative anatomy is the study of

similarities in the anatomical structure of
different species. It supports evolution by
providing evidence that supports or dismisses
the relatedness of two organisms.
Very good!

What are the 3 structures that we have Homologous structures share an ancestor but
discussed? serve a different function but analogous
structures serve a similar function but do not
share an ancestor. Vestigial structures are
traits that our ancestors needed but no longer

serve a purpose in our environment.

Very good! You were able to recall the topics
we tackled last meeting.

But before we start our lesson, do you want to Yes, Ma’am.

play a game?

A. Before the Lesson (Motivation)

This game is called Word Decoder.

Mechanics of the game:

1. Students must guess the secret word by
decoding a series of clues. The clues will
provide hints about the letters in the
word and their correct positions.

Are you ready? Yes, Ma’am.

Charles Darwin, Ma’am.

Jean Baptiste Lamarck, Ma’am.

Natural Selection, Ma’am.

Evolution, Ma’am.

Theories of Evolution, Ma’am.

Very good!

Based on your answer on the game earlier, Our topic is all about the Theories of
what do you think is our topic for today? Evolution, Ma’am.

Exactly!

B. Lesson Proper (Discussion)

I have here a video clip about Theories of
Evolution, analyze it and we will have sharing of
knowledge about the video.

Are you ready? Yes, Ma’am.

https://youtu.be/x73bsC7WIsE?si=zTCYXDJs-cXRPIEx (The student will watch the video)

Based on the video, what is your analysis? The video is about Theories of Evolution,
wherein it tackles about Lamarck’s and
Darwin’s Theory.
Very good!

Today, we will be discussing theories of

evolution.

Let’s define first what is theory, variation,

evolution, and natural selection

What is Theory? A theory is an idea or set of ideas that is

intended to explain facts or events.

Very good!

What is Variation? Genetic variation is the presence of differences

in sequences of genes between individual
organisms of a species. It enables natural
selection, one of the primary forces driving the
Good job! evolution of life.

What about Evolution? Evolution is a process of gradual change that

takes place over many generations, during
which species of animals, plants, or insects
slowly change some of their physical
Nice! characteristics.

And what is Natural Selection? Natural selection is the process through which
populations of living organisms adapt and
change. Individuals in a population are
naturally variable, meaning that they are all
different in some ways. This variation means
that some individuals have traits better suited
to the environment than others.
Very good!

Who is in the picture? It’s Jean Baptiste Lamarck.

Very good!

What was his contribution to the Evolution? He was the first evolutionist to believe that
organisms change over time. Using fossils as a
guide, he was able to develop 3 Theories,
namely: The Theory of Needs, The Theory of
Use and Disuse, and The Theory of Acquired
Characteristics.
Amazing!

What is the Theory of Needs? This theory states that organisms change in
response to their environment. Their ability to

TEACHER EDUCATION
UNIVERSITY

survive helped them develop characteristics

necessary for them to adapt in a given
environment.

Very well said!

What is the theory of Use and Disuse? This theory states that organs not in use will
disappear, while organs in use will develop.
For example, the giraffes used to have short
neck. When there was no food that they could
reach with their short neck, they stretch their
neck to reach food from the tall tree, and their
offspring inherited long necks.

What is the Theory of Acquired Characteristics? This theory states that if an organism changes
during life in order to adapt to its
environment, those changes are passed on to
its offspring.

Very good!

Do you understand the theory of Lamarck? Yes, Ma’am.

Do you think Lamarck’s theory is accepted? Many scientists rejected the theories of
Lamarck. They understood that if there were
changes in cell or body structure, there could
be changes in the genetic information of the
species.

Who is in the picture?

Charles Darwin, Ma’am.

Charles Darwin is primarily known as the

architect of the theory of evolution by natural
Who is he? selection.

Very good! “Survival of the Fittest”. Organisms that are

more adapted to their environment are more
What is Theory of Natural Selection? likely to survive and pass on the genes that
aided their success. This process causes
species to change and diverge over time.

Darwin's theory became accepted because it

had more evidence that supported it.

Yes, Ma’am.

Very good!

Why does theory of Darwin is accepted?

Very good! Do you understand our topic?

Generalization
Who are the proponents of Theory of Jean Baptiste Lamarck and Charles Darwin.
Evolution?
Jean Baptiste Lamarck has three:
What are the theories of the two evolutionists?  The Theory of Needs states that states
that organisms change in response to
their environment
 The Theory of Use and Disuses states
that organs not in use will disappear,
while organs in use will develop.
 The Theory of Acquired Characteristics
states that if an organism changes
during life in order to adapt to its
environment, those changes are
passed on to its offspring.

Charles Darwin:
 The Theory of Natural Selection states
that organisms that are more adapted
to their environment are more likely to
survive and pass on the genes that
aided their success.
