Lesson Plan PowerPoint Presentation

Lesson Plan in Technology, Livelihood

and Economics
Drafting Technology Grade 8

I. Objectives:

At the end of the lesson the students

should be able to:

1. Identify different
drafting tools and materials.

2. Identify different
drafting Instruments.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Drafting Instruments, Tools and

Materials

References: T.H.E. II p.1315

III. Procedure

A. Preparation
1. Prayer
2. Checking of attendance

3. Definition of Terms:

1. Tool/s- a device or implement,

especially one held in the hand, used to
carry out a particular function.
2. Material/s- the matter from
which a thing is or can be made.
3. Instruments- An instrument is a
device that requires skill for proper use

4. Motivation:

1. Randomly ask the students who

among them loves to draw.
2. Randomly ask the students
what do they use when drawing
something?

B. Lesson Proper

1. Group the students randomly into 6

groups.
2. Give each group an example of a
drawing instrument, material and tools, to
be drawn into their notebooks using their
pens. (Protractor, Compass, divider, 60-30
degree triangle, 90-45 degree triangle, TSquare). After each group is finished with
the first instrument they have, they
should pass it to the other groups.

3. When all has finished drawing,

discuss the uses and functions thru
Power point Presentation.

C. Comparison
1. Let the students look at their own drawings
and compare them to the pictures in the power point
presentations.
-Are there difference between the pictures and
their drawings?
2. Discussions on the importance of using
instruments in drawing.
-ask the students
randomly why it is important to use drawing
instruments, tools and materials
3. Call some students to draw the instruments
on the board using the instruments.

IV. Evaluation

A. Short Oral Quiz

1. Present each instrument and
call students randomly to identify
and give the use of the instrument
presented.
-give 10 points for each
student who could identify each
instrument correctly. 5 points for
those who can not .

V. Assignment
1. Bring your own drawing
instruments, materials and tools next
meeting.
2. Draw each instrument in drawing
paper using the drawing instruments.

Common Drafting Tools,

Materials, and Equiptment

COMMON DRAFTING
MATERIALS

The paper used is called vellum which is thin paper that you can see
through. Vellum is tough and can withstand erasing without leaving
marks.

COMMON DRAFTING
INSTRUMENTS

An erasing shield is necessary when erasing inked or penciled

lines, views, and so forth, located in areas where there are other
lines. It is generally of a thin sheet of stainless steel or alloyed
aluminum.

T-square is primarily used in projecting horizontal lines. The T-squares head could
be detached or fixed. The lower edge of the T-square maybe used as a guide for
cutting. The blade on its upper edge is called as the working edge. It is commonly
made from celluloid materials with its straight edge and wooden blade .

The Triangles are used to project lines from

a horizontal base, projecting isometric
drawing as well as lines in an oblique
drawing. It is usually made from light
transparent celluloid materials.

compass - drafting instrument used

for drawing circles

Divider - a drafting instrument resembling a

compass that is used for dividing lines into equal
segments or for transferring measurements

The Protractor is commonly made from celluloid

plastic. This instrument has a calibrated angle or
degree ranging from 0 degree to 360 degree. It is
primarily use to plot angles on the drawing.

Common Drafting Tools

Drawing Board or Drawing Table-it is in this board where the drawing paper is placed. Here, the paper
should be fastened with adhering tape to prevent the paper from any movement. It measures 24 x 36
inches and made with a smooth surface. The edge of the drawing board serves as the base of the triangle
when projecting line or lines in the different angles. Using the T-square the edge of the board could be
used as a guide in creating horizontal lines.

Drafting Tape, the drafting tape is used to fasten the

paper on the drawing board to prevent it from moving.

Eraser-used to erase unwanted marks on the

drawing paper. It is usually made up of rubber.

The Drawing Pencil is used to sketch drawings. There are different

kinds of drawing pencil. They varies or classified in accordance with
their grade of softness as well as in the hardness of their lead.
