GEOMETRY IN SPACE
Geometry
Geometry is a word derived from Greek. In Greek, "geo" means "earth" and "metria" means
measure. geometry is a branch of mathematics that studies the size, shape, and position of
2-dimensional shapes and 3-dimensional figures.

Space
Space is unlimited three-dimensional expanse in which all material objects are located.

Geometry In Space
Geometry in space focused on structures and solids, such as spheres, cubes or cones, and
the measurement of their volume and surface area. By the early 17th century, new concepts
about space emerged. New ideas about geometry and measurements on curved surfaces
POINTS, LINE AND PLANES

POINTS
A point in geometry is a location. It has no size, no width, no
length and no depth. A point is shown by a dot.

LINE
A line is defined as a line of points that extends infinitely in
two directions. It has one dimension, length. A line is defined
by two points and is written as shown with an arrowhead.
Two lines that meet in a point are called intersecting lines. A
part of a line that has defined endpoints is called a line
segment.
PLANES
A plane is a flat surface that extends infinitely in all
directions; it has length and width only; it has no thickness.

RECTANGULAR PRISM
Properties:
 A prism with rectangular bases.
 There are six faces.
 All faces meet at 90 degrees.
 Opposite faces are parallel.

CYLINDER

Properties:
o A solid with two parallel circular bases.
o If you "unwrap" the middle section and lay it flat, it is a
rectangle.

Example:
  Surface area = A cylindrical water storage tank has an inside
base radius of 7m and depth of 11 m. Find the

Find the surface area of a cylinder with a Solution:
radius of 4 cm, and a height of 3 cm. Base radius: r = 7 m
Solution: Height: h = 11 m
Surface area = The water storage tank is in the shape of the

SPHERE

Properties:
o A solid figure where all points are an equal distance
from the center point.
o It's a ball.

in one point.
o It has one vertex.
  Surface area =
Example 1:

total surface area of the cone.
Solution: Example:
To begin with we need to find slant height of the Find the volume of cone, whose radius is 8 cm
cone, which is determined by using Pythagoras, and height is 5 cm.
since the cross section is a right triangle. Solution:
l2 = h2 + r2
l2 = 52 + 32
l2 = 25 + 9
l = √(34)
l = 5.83 cm
