WELCOME
STUDENTS
Topic: Force, work and Energy
Learning Objective:
To identify the common forces we come
across in our daily life.
To explain the term work.
To list some simple machines.
To explain some of the forms and sources of
energy.
  Learning Outcomes /Success Criteria

Can list the different types of forces.

Can identify the different simple
machines used to make our work easy.
Can draw the life cycle of frog, butterfly.
Can list the different forms of energy.
Force, Work and Energy
WHAT I KNOW?

• What do you mean by force? • Self correction

LO: To explain force and describe the
types of forces.

• Changes which force can cause:

• Force- push/pull
• Start motion
• Stop motion
• Increase/ decrease the speed of
an object.
• Change the direction of an
object.
• Change shape of an object.
Types of forces

 Frictional Force

 The force which resists the motion of

an object on a surface.
 Friction is produced when two
surfaces rubs against each other.
 Friction generates heat.
 Force of friction always acts in a
direction opposite to that of the
applied force.
• If there is no friction, anything
• Smooth surface offers less that starts moving will never
friction and takes more time to stop.
slow down an object moving on • If there is too much friction,
a smooth surface. nothing will move.
• Rough surface offers more
friction.

• All things thrown up falls down
due to the force of gravity of

 Gravitational force

called the force of gravity .

• What do you think would

happen if there was no gravity
on Earth?
LO: To describe the different type of forces.

Application

 RL

 Give two examples of friction from

your real life.

on a banana peel? grooved with raised threads.
Why do you think tyres are not
made smooth?
Lo: To explain work.

• Work is said to be done only

when the force applied on an
object causes it to move through
a distance.
• Work is said to be done when
the force applied causes a
change in size and shape of the
object
Lo:To list some simple machines.

• A simple machine is a tool that • Some simple machines are:

makes our work easier and • Lever
faster with the use of less
energy. • Pulley
• Wheel and Axle
• Inclined Plane
• Screws
• Wedge
