> Represent unit fraction with denominators 10 and below
> Appreciate fractions by answering correctly the situations given about sharing

II. LESSON PROPER

Topic: Visualizing, representing and identifying Unit Fractions
Reference: K to 12 CG p. 43
TG pp. 213-215

III. PROCEDURE
TEACHERS ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY
1. Preparatory Activity

chant?”
“Yes, ma’am.”

“From the jazz chant, are there some words
that you think are connected to our math
subject?”
“Yes ma’am.”
“Reemi, kindly give me one.”

“Very good, what else Aldrin?” “ ¼ ma’am.”

“Precisely.”
“1/2 ma’am.”
TEACHERS ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY
2. Motivation

“ When you were in Grade 1, you learned already
about ½ and ¼ , right?” “Yes ma’am.”
“So, I have cut-outs here
and you are going to post
each cut-out to its proper heading. Who wants to
do it first?”
Pupils raise their hands.

“Yes ma’am.”
“Yes Maylhen.”
Maylhen posted the cut-out below its heading.
“ Is Maylhen correct?”

B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES
1. PRESENTATION
“How do we call, ½ and ¼?” “1/2 and ¼ are fractions.”

“What are fractions, Angel?” “Fractions are part of a whole.”

“Very good. Our lesson for today is about

fractions.
2. LESSON PROPER
So now I have a situation here.
Let’s read.”
Mother gave you and your sister a cupcake to share. How
will you divide the cupcake?
(LITERACY SKILL THROUGH READING A PROBLEM)
TEACHERS ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY
”Jim, can you please show to the class on how will you divide
the cupcake?”
Jim, divided the cupcake into two equal parts.
“Is Jim correct?”
“Yes ma’am.”

“Very good. If you were Jim, would you do

the same? Why? Leevhie? ” “Yes ma’am because if I will not give an equal part to my sister,
Maybe she will cry.”

“ Precisely. It is very important to practice equal sharing to

prevent misunderstanding or conflict with others.” (Valuing)

“What part of the cupcake is for Jim, Carlo?” “1/2 is for Jim.”
“How about his sister?”
“1/2 is for his sister.”

“Exactly, Carlo. In a fraction, we have the so called numerator

which is the number above the bar and the denominator
which is the number below the bar. This morning, we will
focus on unit fractions.”
TEACHERS ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY
The teacher will post cut-outs on the board
to be studied and discussed.
“How many equal parts are there in cut-out
#1?” “ There are 6 equal parts.”
“How many parts were shaded or taken
away, Yhan Zei?” “ One part is shaded or taken away.”
“The shaded part will be
the numerator and
The total number of equal parts will be the
denominator.”

“So cut-out #1 represents 1/6.”

(Continue the discussion)
TEACHERS ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY
A. ACTIVITY

“Go to your group and get you slates. I’m
going to post a figure on the board and you
are going to write the unit fraction. At the count
of 5, all slates should be raised. The group
who will gain the highest points will be
declared as the winner and will have
3 stars.”
