Measurement of Temperature
●
Temperature – the measure of hotness or coldness of an object.

What is the normal human body temperature?

The basic unit for temperature is Kelvin. Thermometer is used to measure

temperature.

We use three kinds of units for temperature:

1. Celsius (
2. Fahrenheit
3. Kelvin
Celsius Scale

Celsius (also called centigrade)

- Invented in 1742 by the Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius.

- Is a scale based on 0° for the freezing point of water and 100° for the
boiling point of water. It is sometimes called the centigrade scale because
of the 100-degree interval between the defined points.
Fahrenheit Scale

Fahrenheit temperature scale

- Invented in 18th century by German physicist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit.

- Is a scale based on 32° for the freezing point of water and 212° for
the boiling point of water, the interval between the two being divided into
180 equal parts.
Kelvin Scale

● - invented by British inventor and scientist William Thomson — also

known as Lord Kelvin.

● The Kelvin scale uses the same units as the Celsius scale, but it starts
at ABSOLUTE ZERO, the temperature at which everything including air
freezes solid. Absolute zero is O K, which is - 273°C degrees Celsius.
