Tone

• Is what a person say and how they say it


• The speaker may be serious, witty,
playful, angry, mysterious, or tender.
• Tone is shown by the use of words and
the manner of saying them.
Mood
• Is what the listener feel toward what
being said to his or her.
• The listeners may feel cheerful, relieved,
gloomy, angry, tense, fearful, or relaxed
after listening to something.
Now try saying this…
• “Oh no! I lost my phone.”
• “I’ve tried several times, but I still don’t
understand how to do this!”
• “What? You did not do your assignment
again?”
• “Wow! That is amazing.”
• “Whew! I thought I can’t be here on time.”

• The meaning of a word depends on the
context, that is, how the word is used in a
sentence.
• For example the word SENSE can be used in
different ways or context.
SENSE
1. We have five sense organs – eyes, ears, nose,
tongue, and skin.
2. I could sense that Martha is confident to win the
painting contest.
3. My sense of freedom soars whenever I paint.
4. Alfred’s sense of mixing colors enables him to
articulate reality in his painting.
