Existing Government Schemes

needy in procuring standard aids and
appliances to alleviate effects of
disabilities. Grants-in-aid are provided
ADIP to various implementing agencies

amputees for the first time in 2019, the
CMCHIS CM Comprehensive Health Insurance
Scheme now expands to include
prosthesis too.

hearing and mentally impaired.

Current Status of R&D
• “Intelligent Prosthetic Limb” – IIT Delhi : In the year 2018, students from
IIT Delhi came up with a prosthetic limb, costing around INR 40,000; having a
more human-like structure, with 24 sensors, to understand body movements
and function accordingly.
• Ottobock India – Artificial hands, arms, and legs across the country with a
range of products such as Knee joints, Sports foot, Prosthetic foot, footplate,
etc., for full and partial amputation.
• Scheck & Siress Prosthetics Orthotics – A Prosthetic Company in Chicago
which deals with a range of battery-operated bionic limbs and sockets, to
support locomotion at the individual’s discretion.
