THE CAUSATIVE

Active:
SUBJECT + HAVE + OBJECT 1 (personal obj) + Bare infinitive + OBJECT 2
GET to infinitive
( Obj1 is caused to do the action of the verb following it).
Passive:
SUBJECT + HAVE / GET + OBJECT 2 (denoting things) +PP + by _ agent
The causative verbs are used to indicate that one person causes a
second person to do sth for the first person.
Eg: Please have the boy deliver these things to my house.
PASSIVE: Please have these things delivered to my house.
Eg: I’ll get the garage to check the car engine tomorrow.
PASSIVE: I’ll get the car engine checked by the garage.
Eg: - I must go to the barber & have him cut my hair.
- He’s going to have the shoe repairman mend his shoes.
- The Smiths are going to get a new house built.
- My mother is going to have / get her eyesight tested by a doctor.
