Dynamic Power Backoff
LTE4054
Dynamical power backoff per TTI on a per need bases
• The operator can configure a target power backoff value in dB for
each cell, e.g. 0.8dB
• The scheduler will decide each TTI dynamically about how much Power Backoff needed
power backoff is needed to the given TTI
• Configure target power backoff is the maximum applied power 3GPP, EVM limit 3.5% for
backoff for a TTI and this maximum backoff is applied on TTIs with 256QAM
reasonably high 256QAM usage AND transmitting at the max power
• In all other cases, e.g. when the cell is already transmitting at lower
power than the max power due to a smaller number of PRBs used,
the backoff will be reduced accordingly
• Time domain scheduler does not force concentration of 256QAM
users
• Impact on cell edge users using QPSK that are transmitting within a
power backoffed TTI can be controlled via a operator configurable
parameter

LTE19A
UL TCP Power Boost
Overview

• In LTE 18A UL Power Control settings are dictating behavior for whole cell, without possibility for adjustment
based on specific needs
• It has been noticed that with Closed Loop Power Control and wide center window (e.g. SINR [6:23]), UEs
often don’t reach maximal MCS:
• The UL TCP Power Boost algorithm:
- Further increasing throughput for users with medium sized data volume by allowing them to actually reach maximal
possible MCS
- Applicable for FDD and TDD
- Available on AirScale and FSMr3
- Same triggers as LTE5371 TCP service differentiation

Impact on end user experience with medium sized data volume (relevant to e.g. OOKLA, P3 tests):

It is expected that UE UL throughput during the UL Power Boosted can increase up to 40%

LTE1118 Resource Allocation Type 1

Higher capacity for LTE DL with inband NB-IoT

• RAT0 however can only address resources with the granularity of
resource block group (RBG) LTE DL
resources lost
• RBG ranges from 2 to 4 PRBs depending on cell bandwidth
due to NB-
• When NB-IoT is enabled with RAT0 only, whole RBG is lost from IoT without
legacy LTE scheduler LTE1118
• LTE1118 improves this by allowing subset of users to be scheduled
with RAT1
• RAT1 enables per PRB scheduling, therefore only single DL PRB is
lost from legacy LTE due to inband NB-IoT
• Scenarios with improvements are: NB-IoT,
LTE3145 Slim Carrier usage and dynamic spectrum sharing.

LTE2774 Source rate based UL grant assignment for VoLTE

Why

• Improved Resource Efficiency

• Improved VoLTE Capacity

What

• Allows the eNB to detect the actual UL bit rate usage (based
on SR and BSR) and adapts the resource allocation to meet
the actual bit rate.
• The eNB adapts the UL grant to actual size needed by the
UEs in order to minimize the padding overhead.
• E.g. operator assign to high GBR rates for VoLTE (> 70
kbit/s, although 41 kbit/s would be sufficient). Without
LTE2774 this results in a too high padding (50….100% more
PRBs assigned as needed)
