 Не вживаємо “the” з загальними ідеями
 I like music. (Мені подобається музика)
 I like classical music. (Мені подобається класична музика)
 We don’t eat meat very often. (Ми не їмо м’ясо дуже часто)
 Life is not possible without water. (Життя неможливе без води)
 I hate examinations. (Я ненавиджу екзамени)
 Do they sell foreign newspapers in that shop? (Чи продаються
іноземні газети в тому магазині?)
 I’m not very good at writing letters. (В мене не дуже добре
виходить писати листи)
 Do not say THE for games and sports (не вживаємо THE з назвами ігор та
видами спорту)

 My favourite sports are tennis and skiing.

 I don’t like swimming.
 My brother likes to play football and basketball.
Do not say THE for languages or academic subjects (history,
geography, biology) / Не вживаємо THE з назвами мов та
навчальними предметами (історія, географія, біологія)

Do you think English is difficult?

Tom’s brother is studying physics and chemistry.
BUT
артикль the вживається з назвами національностей:
The French – французи
The Ukrainians – українці
BUT
артикль the вживається у реченні, якщо власне після назви мови
стоїть слово language (мова).
• The Spanish language is spoken by many people in the world. – Іспанською
мовою розмовляє багато людей у всьому світі.
• The Ukrainian language is hard, right? – Українська мова складна, правда?
 The and The
Flowers are beautiful. (квіти гарні
взагалі)
I don’t like cold weather. (холодна
погода взагалі)
Are you interested in history?
Everybody needs food. (їжа взагалі)
Your garden is very nice. The flowers
are beautiful. (Ваш сад дуже гарний.
Квіти гарні (квіти саме у вашому
саду))
The weather isn’t very nice today.
(погода сьогодні)
Are you interested in the history of
your country? (історія твоєї країни)
It’s a very nice hotel and the food is
very good. ( Це гарний готель і їжа в
ньому добра)
 Присвійні та вказівні займенники

Артиклі не вживаються, коли перед словом стоять присвійні та вказівні

займенники, тому що слова, що вказують на приналежність предмета до
чогось або когось, заміняють собою артиклі. Наприклад,
займенники my (мій), your (твій), his (його), her (її), its (цього), this (цей), tha
t (той).
• Look at her pretty smile. – Подивись на її гарну посмішку.
• He broke his best record. – Він побив свій найкращий рекорд.
• It’s my last chance. – Це мій останній шанс.
• Let’s watch this movie. – Давай подивимось цей фільм.
• I have already read these articles. – Я вже читав ці статті.
 Дні, місяці, свята

 Артиклі не вживаються з назвами днів тижня, назвами місяців, свят.

• I will go there on Monday. – Я піду туди у понеділок.
• It will be cold in January. – В січні буде холодно.
• We are planning to go to France for Christmas. – Ми збираємось поїхати до
Франції на Різдво.
 Кольори, напої, страви

Артиклі не вживаються з назвами кольорів, напоїв та страв.

• Green is my favourite color. – Зелений - мій улюблений колір.
• How about a shot of tequilla? – Як щодо шоту текіли?
• Give me a glass of milk. – Дай мені стакан молока.
• I don’t want spaghetti. – Я не хочу спагеті.
 Хвороби
Артиклі не вживаються з назвами хвороб
• Kate has got asthma. – У Кейт астма.
• Now it is possible to cure cancer. – Зараз можливо вилікувати рак.
Однак, артиклі можуть вживатися з назвами наступних хвороб
• (the) flu – грип
• (the) measles – кір
• (the) mumps – свинка
• (a) cold – застуда
 Артиклі з географічними назвами
 Перед назвами континентів (continents), країн (countries), міст (cities
and towns), штатів (states), островів (islands), селищ і провінцій
(villages and coutries) артикль, як правило, не ставиться.
France is a very large country.
Cairo /ˈkaɪ.rəʊ/ is the capital of Egypt.
Corsica is an island in the Mediterranean.
BUT!
Ми вживаємо THE + republics (республіки), states (штати), kingdom
(короліство):
the Republic of Ireland / the Irish Republic
the United States of America (the USA)
the United Kingdom (the UK)
Places in towns (streets, buildings etc.) / Місця в містах (вулиці, будівлі
і т.д.)

 Зазвичай ми не використовуємо артикль THE з:

 Назвами вулиць (names of streets), стадіонів (stadiums), площ
(squares)
Kevin lives in Coronation Street.
Where is Highfield Road?
Trafalgar Square is in the centre of London.
 The + name of place (назва місця) + airport / station / university /
castle (замок) etc.
Munich Airport, Westminster Abbey, Paddington Station, Edinburgh
Castle, Cambridge University, London Zoo
Але ми зазвичай використовуємо артикль the + names of hotels
(назвами готелів), restaurants (ресторанів), pubs (пабів), cinemas
(конотеатрів), theatres (театрів), museums (музеїв), institutes
(інститутів), skyscrapers (хмарочосів), galleries (галерей), bridges
(мости)

The Science Museum
The National Theatre
The Star of India (restaurant)
The Odeon (cinema)
The Tate Gallery (art gallery)
the Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education
the Burj Khalifa (skyscraper)

 Seas and rivers
Моря, річки
Ми використовуємо артикль the + names of oceans, seas, rivers, canals:
The Atlantic (Ocean) – Атлантичний океан
The (River) Nile – р. Ніл
The Mediterranean (Sea) /ˌmed.ɪ.tərˈeɪ.ni.ən/ – Середземне море
The Suez Canal - Суецький канал
 the… of…
Ми кажемо the + names with … of…
The Republic of Ireland
The Great Wall of China
The Bank of England
The Tower of London
 The –s (plural names)
 Ми використовуємо the + plural names (the –s) (назва у множині із
закінченням –s) of countries (країн), islands (островів), mountains (гір)
 The Netherlands (Нідерланди)
 The Canary Islands (Канарські острови)
 The Philippines (Філіппіни)
 The Andes (Анди)

Peaks are used without articles (назви окремих гір вживаються без
артиклів):
