DISCUSSION
In your own idea,
what is
argumentative
essay?
An argumentative essay presents
evidences for a claim in order to let the
reader know why it is more favorable. It
also shows why the other side of an issue
is unfavorable or less favorable. It also
includes, like any other essay, an
introduction and conclusion.
And in
argumentative
essay we have?
Pros and Cons
Pros are an argument or
consideration in favor of
something. Take note of
the word “favor”
Cons are an argument or
opinion against something.
Remember the word
“against”
For example:
Pros: Jeepneys are notorious for their high emissions,
and replacing them with electric or hybrid vehicles could
significantly reduce pollution and improve air quality.

Cons: Jeepney drivers and operators could be negatively

impacted by the phaseout, as they may not have the
resources to purchase new vehicles or may not be able to
afford the increased costs of newer vehicles.
Elements of an Argumentative Essay
• 1. Claim - a statement by an author about an issue.
• 2. Argument - an idea that supports the claim.
• 3. Evidence - facts in the real world that can be used to support an
argument.
• 4. Counter Argument - an idea given by the opposing side against
the claim given in the argumentative essay.
• 5. Rebuttal - the response to the counterargument.
• 6. Conclusion - the conclusion restates the claim, summarizes
arguments, restates the counterclaim and rebuttal and makes any
recommendation.
• Group Activity: Informal debate
