LOCATION OF

VOLCANOES
2
WHAT IS THE REASON
WHY HEAT ESCAPES
FROM EARTH’S INNER
CORE?

3
CAN YOU NAME A
VOLCANO AND
LOCATE IT WHERE IT
IS?

4
Objective:
1. locate volcanoes in the Philippines by plotting its latitude
and longitudinal coordinates.
2. determine the relationship the Philippines location to the
Pacific Ring of Fire.
3. suggest strategies to minimize the destructive impacts of
volcanic eruptions.

5
“PLOT ME!”

Plot the listed volcanoes on the Philippine map

that is given to you. Make a legend and assign
different colors of your liking.

6
Legend:
Volcano that has no record of
eruption
Volcano that has erupted 1 to 5
times
Volcano that has erupted 6 to 10
times
Volcano that has erupted more than
10 times

7
Legend:
Volcano that has no record of
eruption
Volcano that has erupted 1 to 5
times
Volcano that has erupted 6 to 10
times
Volcano that has erupted more than
10 times

WHY IS THE PHILIPPINES
RICH IN VOLCANOES?

WHAT IS PACIFIC RING OF FIRE
• The Pacific Ring of Fire or the
Circum-Pacific Belt, is a region
around the Pacific Ocean that is
known for its high volcanic and
seismic activity
• The Ring of Fire is a horseshoe-
shaped line on a map which is
home to around 75% of the
world’s volcanoes and 90% of
the world’s earthquakes.

PRESENTATION TITLE 11
WHAT MAKES THE RING OF FIRE SO SPECIAL?
Subduction zone forms when
continental crust and oceanic crust
collide. The continental crust is
thicker and more buoyant than the
oceanic crust, so the oceanic crust
subducts beneath the continental
crust. As the plate sinks deeper, it
can reach depths of 50 to 100 miles
(80-160 kilometers) where it is so
hot that the crust releases fluids
trapped inside. 12
WHAT CAN YOU SUGGEST IN
MITIGATING DESTRUCTION AND
DEATHS CAUSED BY A VOLCANIC
ERUPTION?

13
Instruction:
Write O if the statement is true. Write X when the statement is false.
1. The Pacific Ring of Fire is a region where many earthquakes, but no
volcanic activity occurs.
2. The eruption of Mount Taal in the Philippines is an example of a
volcanic event within the Pacific Ring of Fire.
3. The only way to mitigate hazards brought by volcanic eruptions is by
trying to predict exactly when they will occur.
4. Evacuation planning is an important way to mitigate hazards brought
by volcanic eruptions.
5. Most the world's active volcanoes are located along the Pacific Ring
of Fire.
