#21 The Monroe Doctrine

In 1823 president James Monroe issued the Monroe Doctrine which stated that any western colonization or expansion by England would be met with U.S. Intervention. America did this in order to protect South America which was at the time almost completely independent. The Monroe Doctrine was also used several times throughout history including the cold war to protect America from Eastern influences. It was a great example of how America had grown militarily throughout the years.
