    Eli Whitney was a southern inventor who was most noted for his creation of the cotton gin. In the south, the slave trade had decreased and was headed for extinction until the invention of this device, because it made cotton so easy to manufacture the demand for cotton skyrocketed, thus increasing the need for slave labor. He also invented the interchangeable parts which made it easier to repair weapons and machinery instead of having to get entirely new ones. This had large impact on the industrial industry.
