Battle of Yorktown in 1781 was the final battle of the American Revolution, in which General George Washington led his troops to surround those of the British under the command of General Cornwallis. The battle took place in a peninsula and was a strategic location for General Washingtons troops because it forced Cornwallis troops in to one location and prevented them from retreating. The American victory at Yorktown led to the surrender of Cornwallis and the British army which officially led to America becoming independent.
