Max. Marks: 80

Define centre of pressure, and derive the equation for hydrostatic force when a submerged plane surface is inclined at an angle with free surface. A trapezoidal plate measuring 2 m at top edge and 3 m at the bottom edge is immersed in water with the plan making an angle of 300 to the free surface of water. The top and the bottom edges lie at 1 m and 2 m respectively from the surface. Find the hydrostatic force on the plate. Define stream line, path line and streak line. Derive the equation of continuity for two dimensional flow. What are the assumptions involved in Bernoullis equation? What is momentum equation and give its applications? The velocity distribution in the boundary layer is given as compute s*/5 and in which =

Derive the expression for shear stress and draw shear stress distribution for couette flow. A pipe line 300 mm in diameter and 3200 m long is used to pump up 50 kg per second of oil whose density is 950 kg/m3 and whose kinematic viscosity is 2.1 stokes. The centre of the pipe line at the upper end is 40 m above than that at the lower end. The discharge at the upper end is atmospheric. Find the pressure at the lower end and draw the hydraulic gradient and the total energy line. (a) (b) What is a notch? What are the advantages of triangular notch over a rectangular notch? A rectangular notch 40 cm long is used for measuring a discharge of 30 lps. An error of 1.5 mm was made while measuring the head over the notch. Find the percentage error in the discharge. Take Cd = 0.60.
