Illum adeo placuisse apibus mirabere morem,
quod neque concubitu indulgent nec corpora segnes
in Venerem solvunt aut fetus nixibus edunt:
verum ipsae e foliis natos, e suavibus herbis
ore legunt, ipsae regem parvosque Quirites
sufficiunt aulasque et cerea regna refigunt.
Saepe etiam duris errando in cotibus alas
attrivere ultroque animam sub fasce dedere:
tantus amor florum et generandi gloria mellis.
Ergo ipsas quamvis angusti terminus aevi
excipiat, neque enim plus septima ducitur aestas,
at genus immortale manet multosque per annos
stat fortuna domus et avi numerantur avorum.

Jelena Pilipovic
Assimilatio divina. Towards an interpretation of Virgils Georgica
A b s t r a c t
Anagogy, or the ascension, in the original Platos texts is described in the
mythical and poetical rather then conceptual way (Phaidros, Symposion, Politeia
,Phaedo), not to become systemized till the medioplatonism (Didaskalos by Alki
noos). It represents penetration of the soul from the sensible realm into the eidetic
one, s the main telos of human existence, and can be proved to be a constructive
principle of Virgils work due to its reflection both in the structure and thematic. This
paper aims at over viewing the symbolic bee-state, one of the focal points in the Vir
gils polysemic didactic poem, in the light of the anagogy idea, using as a heuristic
guide one of the notions that naturally descend from this idea, the assimilation to the
god, assimilatio divina.
Key words: anagogy, polysemy, poetics, symbol, mimesis
