September 2011, the entire PPISMP TESL June intake 2011 trainees
were required to attend a camp. This camp was specially organized for our
recreational sport. During this camp, my friend Muhammad Azri Mohd Nizam and I
was arranged in Group 9. The members of our group are from different class as well
as different races. We are able to gain many useful experiences through this camp.
Not forget to mention about the problems that we went through as well.
Throughout this camp, both of us face difficulties in communicate with our
group members. As we are passive and have poor soft skills, we felt uncomfortable
when we knew that almost all our group members are from other classes. We even
do not recognize some of them before. At the beginning of this camp, we were very
quiet. During the process we joined amazing hunt, we finally can chat with our group
members. This eventually helps us to talk and communicate more with our group
members and finally we found out that this camp was very interesting and useful
indeed.
In addition, we also learnt that we should speak politely. If we need someone
for help, we need to ask him in polite manner. We must not always direct other
people in doing the work. Instead we should do the work together with him as well.
Take for example, one of our group members shared his experience with us whereby
he was being directed by the one of the coordinator to do works rudely. He was angry
with the coordinators attitude. This made us realized that if we need someone for
help, we need to ask him in polite manner. In this way, the person who we need for
help will help us sincerely without any complain.
On the other hand, we have learnt that teamwork is indeed vital. As we know
that teamwork is essential in group activity. During this camp, we were required to
pitch a tent and cook the lunch ourselves. Therefore, we start to distribute our works
fairly. Group members who are skillful in setting tent were responsible for it while the
female were responsible in cooking the food. Because of we do not have enough
water to cook, therefore some of us willing to contribute their drinking water for
cooking and washing purpose. This make us realized that we must be willing to share

and contribute something that we have when in need. We are also able to notice the
teamwork personalities showed by our group members in the process of building tent.
Besides, we have also learnt to think critically and creatively. During this camp,
the equipment provide to put up a tent are broken. Therefore, we need to think
critically so that we are able to pitch the tent without fully followed the traditional way
to set up a tent. On the other hand, we also created our own recipes in cooking
instant noodles. Besides adding vegetable, sausage and fish ball in the sup of the
instant noodles, we also add in sardine to enhance the taste as we were not provided
with monosodium glutamate. This experience enable to think improve my critical and
creative thinking skill and are useful for me in the future especially when I participate
in or even organize a camp.
In order to improve the camp in the future, the committee members should
provide us with programme book so that we can know the schedule. The committee
members should check the equipment provided to make sure it is in good condition.
As a conclusion, I have learnt how to communicate with people who I never
met before, how to cook in creative way by using the ingredients that provided and
realized the importance of teamwork. I am able to think critically as well. I found this
camp is really a benefit for me as I gained many knowledge as well as experiences
that cannot be priced.
