SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN
MATHEMATICS 7
I. OBJECTIVES
After 60 minutes of teaching at least 75% of the students with 75% proficiency will be
able to describe well defined sets, subsets, universal sets, and null set and cardinality of sets.
LC Code: M7NS-Ia-1
III. PROCEDURES
A. Give the definition of set, element, null set, and the cardinality of set.
Examples
1. A= { a , e , i, o , u } Set A is the set of vowels in the English
Alphabet.
Give another example of set and let the students identify its element.
A={whole numbers between 8 ¿ 14 }
A set is said to be Well-defined Set if we know exactly if an object Is an element of the set.
Example
Set B= {whole numbers less than 5} Since we can give directly the elements of the set which
are 4, 3, 2, 1 and 0, Set B is a well-defined Set.
Empty Set or Null Set is a set with no members. It is denoted by the symbol {} or the Danish
letter ∅ .
Example
A={triangle with 4 sides } A={}∨∅ . Since triangle has only 3 sides.
Example
F={1,3,5,6 } n ( F ) =4, read as “the cardinality of set F is 4”
IV. EVALUATION
1. Determine if a given set is a well-defined set or not well-defined
a. The set of all cities in the Philippines
b. The set of counting numbers greater than 5 but less than 12.
c. The set of even numbers less than 8
d. The set of all rich people in the whole world
e. The set of all math teacher in SLNHS
2. Tell whether the set is an EMPTY Set or NOT.
a. The set of polar bears living in the Sahara Desert.
b. The setoff whole numbers less than 1
c. The set of cars with two doors
d. The days of the week
e. A={ ∅ }
3. What is the cardinality of letter b of test 1.
V. ASSIGNMENT
Answer page 3, Practice Exercise 1.1, letter B only.
