III. PROCEDURE
A. Pre- Activity:
1. Prayer & Checking of attendance
2. Review: The 8 Parts of Speech
3. Motivation: paired activity: Ask the students to answer the given activity.

4. Unlocking of difficult Words

B. LESSON PROPER:
1. Activity: Task 6 A.

2. Abstraction: The Teacher will ask the students to read and analyze sentences from
the text giving emphasis on the Italicized words and to identify each one.

Read the following sentences from “Arachne,” and think about the italicized words / phrases:
1. “I have challenged her to a contest, but she, of course, will not come.”
2. They were terribly afraid as they realized that they stood in the presence of Athene.
3. “Surely, Athene herself must have taught her.”
4. “Therefore, when she heard them murmur, she would stop her work and turn around
indignantly.”
5. Arachne was immensely proud of her skill.

3. Application: Work in small group of five and answer the following questions:

 What do the italicized words/phrases have in common?


 Do they help in giving emphasis to the action?
 What are other examples of these special expressions that signal emphasis?

IV. EVALUATION: The Teacher to give questions that students will answer based on their own
insights with emphasis.

1. Do you believe in sticking to your comfort zone instead of taking yourself out
of it when you face a challenge?

2. Give examples to prove your point and use special expressions to emphasize
and clarify your points.

V. ASSIGNMENT: Think of One great challenge in life that you have faced and describe what
have you done in overcoming it.
