OUT & ABOUT 1

ENGLISH FOR SPANISH SPEAKERS

Mark Hancock & Annie McDonald

Bachillerato

Lesson Programme

Out & About 1 - Lesson Programme - 1- © Cambridge University Press 2015

Out and About 1 is divided into nine units and sections for studying grammar, vocabulary, reading, pronunciation, understanding spoken and written
language, and has the following sections:Vox-pop videos, Life skill, Street wise, Tip, Idioms, Phrasal verbs, False friends and Get it right.

In addition to the Student’s Book, the Teacher's Book and the recordings, the following materials are part of the course:

For students:

Common Mistakes at Bachillerato: This deals with the most common mistakes which Spanish students make and give the chance to practise and correct
them.

Students also have a Workbook Audio, on which they can listen to all the audio comprehension activities and dictations.

El Out & About Augmented Reality App allows students to scan the first page of each unit to give them direct access to the multimedia resources on their
mobile phones and tablets.

For teachers:

El Teacher’s Resource Disc includes a great variety of extra resources: exercises for grammar on two levels, vocabulary exercises, practising oral
comprehension, oral language production, writing, translation, worksheets about literature and exams on two PAU levels in each unit, at the end of each term
and at the end of the course.

The Teacher’s DVD includes all the course videos and a photocopiable notebook.

Online PAU Test Generator creates PAU-type exams.

The website www.outandabout.es offers students and teachers extra material, including sound files, videos, activities and the tips and tricks section which
helps students to use English in the real world.

This Lesson Programme has been drawn up for use throughout the academic year at non-bilingual educational centres or with the minimum number of hours
set by the Spanish educational system. Each teacher can adapt the programme to his/her needs and those of his/her centre.

In 1st Bachillerato, each unit consists of three lessons of 50 to 55 minutes every week.

1st term: Units 1, 2 and 3 .
2nd term: Units 4, 5 and 6 .
3rd term: Units 7, 8 and 9.

Each table in this Lesson Programme suggests how to use the activities in the Student's Book (SB), Work Book (WB) and others parts of Out & About
during a lesson. They also reflect the general and specific objectives of each objective such as competences, types of interaction, competences developed and
the materials required for that purpose. The abbreviations used are:

Competences
OC - Oral Comprehension
OE - Oral Expression
RC - Reading Comprehension
WE - Writing Expression

Interaction:
Ind- Individual
P - in pairs
SG - small groups
LG - large group, the whole class

Competences
LC - Linguistic Communication
MSCT- Mathematical competence and basic science and technology competences.
DC - Digital competences
LL - Learning to Learn
SCS - Social and Civic Competences.
SIE - Sense of Initiative and Entrepreneurship
CCE - Cultural Conscience and Expressions

At the end of each lesson there are optional activities in the Teacher’s Book (grammar, vocabulary, writing, reading, dictations, translation, various different
communication activities) which the teacher may use if there is time, giving priority to those which reinforce the most needed structures, vocabulary and
competences.

Out & About 1 - Lesson Programme - 3- © Cambridge University Press 2015

In the Reinforcement-Extension / Homework* column activities are added for different purposes:
1. Reinforcing parts of the unit which are not clear or which are difficult.
2. Giving students who learn slowly more chance to practice.
3. Allowing faster students to reinforce and extend their knowledge without getting bored.

Some of these activities may be used in class and others can be given as homework (marked with *).

The evaluation tables at the end of each unit reflect the activities at the end of each lesson which can be used to evaluate different competences. The teacher
can use these and others to observe students' progress, or choose specific options to evaluate the whole unit, although to do the latter we recommend using the
Tests included in the Teacher's Resource Disc (TRD). An evaluation lesson is recommended at least once per unit.
